Ultimately I would have preferred highly detailed sprites to 3D models. Partly for continuity and partly because I just like sprites.

But, I get that highly detailed sprites are a pain to make and would probably have cost more. I also get that they really wanted to show off the 3D, so I'm not upset either.

That would have been nice too. I like hand-drawn 2D animation a lot, and I especially like the direction that all the art has been taking. Don't get me wrong, I love all the old Sugimori art too but I really do like the smoothness of the new stuff.

Still, I think I would have preferred highly detailed sprites. Again, I'm just a sucker for 'em.

How come a fan game can have such beautiful sprite animation, but professional games don't?

Sprite animation is expensive and provides only minimal benefit nowadays when we have the computing abilities to use more traditional drawings or 3d models. They look nice, but they're also very niche.

Gen V already gives you a good idea of what it would be like. Just imagine the sprites being at a higher resolution, with more frames for everything.

Sprites can look great, but that doesn't mean 3D can't look good either.

Especially for something as simplistic in design as Pokemon, it all comes down to the quality of animation, which is something independent of medium.

Sprites were better for some, Models were better for others. This is what we have, it's what we take, it's what we will have to deal with. It's good enough.

For example, typlosion has the flames only appear when it attacks, which is great
Now look at munna and the dreammist isalways there like some sort of deformed organ or something.
Same thing for a few others such as weezing I think.
If they fix that, and a couple of flying pokemon itll be fine.
Overall it was a very nice addition with some flaws.
Also we need a colorsheme fix.

Gamefreak was probably aware some people really like the sprites, thats why they used cel-shading in their first 3d game. There are of course some that are still not pleased, but I think it's the best possible compromise.

Honestly I hope I never see full 3D in handheld pokemon games like you'd see in Colosseum. I don't think those kinds of models have a place in the games, they need the "cartoonish" style mixed in to match the official artwork. cell shaded was a good choice

It's the entire design. Ears are big enough but the fur sprouting out of them like wax reaches stupid level.

Then you've got that god awful robe of fur. How it reaches 100 speed with that shit I'll never know. And kind of personally I hate the wand. It looked decent on Braixen but not here. It should have a staff, not a massive Gandalf one mind you maybe something the size of a walking cane.

I preferred sprites mainly because te colorations on the models seem reall bad in some cases, kinda too pale.

The models themselves are fantastic for the most part, too fantastic actually, the issue is the animations for some Pokemon, XY's washed out color palette for textures which likely would've applied to sprites too, and the shit resolution on the 3DS.

Having more playtime hours in Stadium, Stadium 2, Colosseum and XD than of the main games, no, I didn't missed sprites since stadium 1.
They gave you better animations, pokemon personality, details and effects that any 2d pokemon game can't ever achieve.

I love Colosseum pokemon more because, even when x/y have more polycount and better textures, the damn animations are lifeless abortion works.

Someone should really take it's model and fix it to what we think it should look like. From an aesthetic viewpoint it's so fucking ugly, but had SUCH great potential. I don't mind how it went from super feminine to kind of ambiguous, but it need some sort of shape besides TRIANGLE WITH EAR WAX
