Questions about Pokemon Bank

Decided to start playing Pokemon again. I bought Pokemon X back when it came out, beat it and then shelved it for a while to play some other games I was more interested in at the time.

Now I'm back and interested in transferring over my Pokemon from previous games. What are the issues with Bank and what can I expect? I don't hear very good things so I'm a bit hesitant.

Nothing's wrong with it. As long as you can shell out five bucks a year for service and you don't try to transfer blatantly hacked 'mons, you're fine

It's actually pretty great. You can store any Pokemon in there like a massive PC Box Black/White/Black2/White2 onwards.

Then you can download them into any current or future game. So it's like a permanant PC box for the rest of Pokemons existance. No more having to catch the same pokemon to beat the dex when you play a new game, you can carry everything over.

On top of that, you get Battle Points or PokeMiles as a reward for just having Pokemon in the bank, which otherwise requires a shitton of grinding to obtain.

It's genuinely a handy feature.

I love Pokemon Bank, quite frankly. I don't keep many Pokemon in it regularly, but I use it a lot to transfer in Pokemon from older games. Bank can store up to 3000 Pokemon (100 boxes), and they've specifically set it up to allow compatibility for future games, plus it's only $5 a year. Honestly, the system's only drawback is that you can only transfer one PC box at a time through Poke Transfer.
All in all, I say get it.

What can happen if you attempt to transfer blatant hacks? Does it glitch out or cancel your membership? I'm assuming not, I just like to be on the safe side.

If I was to restart my Pokemon X, would I still be able to transfer the 'mons registered to that game card? Or would they be forever locked away like Pokemon Ranch?

If you're transferring from your fifth generation games (Pokemon Black, White, Black 2, White 2) you're gonna need Pokemon Transporter.

Pokemon Transporter transports all the pokemon in Box 1 into the Pokemon Bank's Transfer Box. Then you'll need to go to Pokemon Bank and take the pokemon OUT of the Transfer Box into somewhere else before you can use it again.

Keep in mind in order to use Pokemon Bank you need to have X or Y in your 3DS plus a good internet connection. It's a pretty big pain in the ass taking Pokemon Black in and Y out, Y in and Black out etc. etc..

Other than that there're no real problems. Even the five bucks a year isn't a problem. You literally pay your 5.00 via eShop dollars which are good for 365 days and can be used anytime.

Yup, every time you check into Pokemon Bank, you're given a reward, either in BP or Poke Miles, of a certain value.

Bank isn't linked to the game, just the 3DS. So you could catch something in X, restart and transfer that onto your new game. I think that's how it would go anyway considering it is meant to be compatible with all current/future games.

I don't know why people complain about paying 5USD for a year of membership. It's not a mandatory feature and it's actually pretty handy.
I honestly consider the 5 bucks fee just for the storage and the transporter something extra.
It's great to keep breed rejects or stuff you might use later.

I've heard that this isn't the case. That if you start a new game (and a new trainer ID) that you are no longer able to get your pokemon from Bank into your new saved file or vice versa. I hope you're right though.

It's much better than any other gen's transfer system. Only downside is that you can't store items, but that's a given.

Gen 5's transfer system was a fucking nightmare.

Love pokebank, but hate using it when internet is slow. Had multiple unfortunate experiences where I was type-sorting my bank for a long time, only to have internet disconnected when i tried to save.
tl;dr: don't use it for too long, save often.
