Is Charizard only good because of it's mega evolutions? Is it possible to run a Charizard successfully without a mega? Like...I don't know Assault Vest Charizard or something?

Same goes to other pokemon like him that was boosted straight up to OU because of their megas, like Mawile, Pinsir, Kangaskhan etc.

I made a Sturdy + Weakness Policy + Rock Polish combo work once.

Of course in a meta at the mercy of priority moves and steel's loss of Dark resistance it's very, very niche.

Charizard was a top threat in gen NU.

It doesn't work in any other tier without a megastone.

Aggron also doesn't work in OU without it's mega, I mean thing is niche by itself.

Even with Sheer Force Mawile still looses in power and bulk aswell. There is absolutely no reason to use it over it's mega.

Shes outclassed. Too many physical Normal types beat the 95 Attack mark. Even Lickilicky who has 10 points less Attack outdamages her with STAB Explosion. Shes shit without her mega.

First of all, 10/10 taste.
I have five Aggron.
1: Head Smash/Rock Head kamikaze.
2: Sturdy/WP/RP that's already been mentioned.
3: Megaggron with RestTalk and Dragon Tail plus filler.
4: More conventional Megaggron with Twave, Heavy Slam, and Pow-up Punch.
5: Nuke Aggron. He's the one I'm most proud of. Let me paint you a picture.
My opponent and I have wittled each other down to our last Pokémon each. He just flattened most of my team with Swords Dancing Mega Lucario. I call out Aggron, my last resort. He goes for the Close Combat. Hang on with Sturdy. Just lost all my HP save for one. Metal Burst his furry ass. Aggron takes the kill for the win. It's such a gimmicky set, but when it works, it works well.

See this is what I mean. I think Mega's were a good idea to keep pokemon from getting stale and to try and do something about power creep but in the grand scheme of things it's only going to be a temporary patch. If a pokemon needs to solely rely on it's mega evolution to be good then it's going to find itself back to crap very quickly when the next batch of mega pokemon are released.

Energy ball is basically the same thing as Leaf Blade. The high critical hit ratio is pretty negligible, and the spdef reduction is more helpful in most cases.

The power creep has fucked poor Sceptile over too much, getting a special leaf blade isn't what it needs to bounce back.

Why is it that when shitters don't know what to do with a Pokemon their first instinct is always to slap an Assault Vest on it?

AV is a very niche item, and there aren't that many users who wouldn't rather just have Leftys or a damage boost; it's not something you can mindlessly put on 95% of the meta and come out with a usable Pokemon.
