I think it's a mon that actually would have benefitted from some added detail. Like some delicate vines and leaves that curve over its back from the front like a sort of cape, it could use them to defend/attack the same way the Bulbasaur line uses its vines.

And give it better stats, obviously.

I used Meganium for a mono grass team (for doubles and triples) with the following set:

Meganium (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 252 HP / 128 Def / 128 SpD
Impish Nature
- Grassy Terrain
- Heal Pulse
- Petal Blizzard
- Light Screen

It's been pretty dependable and I've had fun at least.

I actually like Meganium's design almost as much as the other two gen 2 starters, but it's just not fun to play with, not a useful pokemon at all especially in game.

While it seems out of reach, it would make meganium much much better. Its HP is mediocre, but with its defenses and multiscale it would make a good wall. Probably very high UU or low OU if we were going by tiers.

Very realistic Mega spread, for better or worse. While some do get large minmaxed boosts, I think Meganium is the type to just get a little bit of everything, including a boost to both attacking stats.

Even with Feraligatr it's pretty much outclassed by Gyarados, which you get a free one (that's also fucking shiny) at the Lake of Rage. Gen 2 starters were destined to fail.

Not exactly. Feraligatr has, for Gen II, passable Special Attack, while Gyarados has pretty bad Special Attack.

Feraligatr is a better mixed attacker, so it can use Surf and Ice Punch while also using Earthquake effectively.
