Regarding Talonflame: Pidgeot won't be nearly as popular because it laks priority, an item, and takes a Mega Slot, but special Flying STAB is hard to come by, boosts to Sp.Att will make Hurricane a no drawbacks, powerful attack that doesn't kill you and can confuse 30% of the time. Coming off 101+ Speed that's pretty fuckin neato. Heat Wave makes for Steel coverage, too. Maybe it will pick up something else, who knows.
