All of those will probably rise. Kang, Mawile, Banette, uhh lots of stuff were NU before megas.

I honestly can't see Pidgeot or Beedrill becoming any good. Pidgeot, MAYBE, with massive increases to Speed and SpA, but M-Beedrill is working with 495 BST here.

Sceptile has chance at rising to anywhere between high RU and low OU depending on how useful a niche it finds itself in. Remember how people thought Manectric was going to be bad and look where it is.

Audino will be NU or RU, leaning toward RU.

Cameript will be RU, since its niche fits the tier so well while not being good enough for UU.

Lopunny will be RU with use in UU as offensive support with Healing Wish. It might see enough usage to go UU, but I doubt it.

That's a gross overeaggeration. Accurate STAB Hurricane spam with that high speed is really nice, especially given the confusion chance. If it gets around 120 Sp.Attack it would be quite nice.

However, justifying its spot on a team over other Megas for reasons other than preference? That is a bit of a problem, I'll admit. If we want to talk tiers, it will probably be quite good in UU, which is a damn sight nicer than Pidgeot could've ever hoped for before. If it gets some other new moves, who knows. Strong Flying moves are good, and there aren't many special offensive options. Even without an item, it could be a decent fighter if they do its stats right.

Of course Mega Salamence with Aerilate Hyper Voice would have to be absent from any meta where it wants to compete.

I still love it. Nice design for an old bro, and they at least tried to differentiate it with a new niche. Also nice to have a cool bird Pokemon that doesn't seppuku with all its best moves.

It's a Mega, it has a clearly thought out gimmick with an ability, at least one strong compatible move, and stated stat boosts to match. It isn't going to be a destroyer of worlds at the top of OU, but if its the Mega you want to use it will be able to do work well enough and look good while doing it. I'm happy.

I never even considered that Pidgeot would get a Mega. It was the most stylish but weakest even among the Gen 1 birds. So stoked it got a Mega with a cool concept. Hurricane is such a great move, and will finally put Pidgeot's whole wind-power theme to use.

If you tried to measure every winged Pokemon by wingspan it would get ridiculous. What about Dragonite? Butterfree? Zekrom? Mega Pinsir? Bipeds seem pretty consistently measured from toe to the top of the head.

Still though, 7+ feet is huge. Majestic winged mount status. Unless its crest stands straight up.

Pokemon have counters, more news at 11.
It has a niche. It has a team to back it up and doesn't need to have an answer to everything. Even if it got Hydro Pump I wouldn't leave it in on Rhyperior or a similar Rock type. Plus it'll probably end up faster than Galvantula (only 7 points slower as is) unless it's Scarf'd. I can see it working out just fine.

But there's no reason for a biped to be measured by anything other than its standing height in this measurement system, especially since Pidgeot is always shown as large enough to be ridden by the average 10 year old. That makes sense if it's 4'11" tall, not if it has a 4'11" wingspan with is just barely bigger than a red-tailed hawk.

Will No Guard work against this thing? The only move that would benefit from having No Guard is Hurricane and maybe Toxic if you randomly wanted to do that. All this seems to me is Pidgeot setting itself up to be Stone Edged.

The tutors in ORAS better be God-tier.

Realistically, what are some moves GF could give Pidgeot to make No Guard viable on it?

Pidgeot shouldn't be dicking around with anything that has Stone Edge/Rock Slide/Thunder/Blizzard which it can't outspeed and OHKO anyway. The ability is just a reminder not to be an idiot.

Hurricane on it's own is incredible. It's powerful, a good STAB, and has a 30% confusion rate. Combined with Pidgeot's already good speed and a big Special boost it's pretty nice. In terms of other moves to abuse that I could realistically see it getting, there isn't much. Focus Blast comes to mind as a maybe, and it'll probably get Heat Wave again from tutors.

Quality over quantity. What else does it really need? It isn't gonna get Hydro Pump or Thunder anytime soon, Focus Blast is just about the only thing I can think of and even that is stretching. It doesn't have much to abuse, but what it has is pretty solid. Talonflame showed us how good powerful Flying STAB can be. Pidgeot doesn't have priority or an item but in return it gets confusion and no recoil. Heat Wave is a mini-Flare Blitz in this analogy, hits both opponents in doubles, too.

It doesn't need to be tricked out with a million options just to match the ability. It only needs good ones, and Hurricane is great. Even if it ends up a one-trick pony, it's a pretty neat trick to have.

RU is fine indeed, but I wouldn't put him totally out for the count either. A strong, speedy, special Flying attacker would be welcome UU, which has a lot of Fighting types running around like Mienshao, Infernape, and Machamp, not to mention Roserade and friends. Well Talonflame gets to hold an item, but the general idea of your point is true. A "big" boost to 70 SpAtt will probably put it over 100, which is plenty good with that speed and that move. Heat Wave covers Steels, who in most cases won't have much to do back to you, unlike Rock types who Pidgeot just needs to stay the hell away from, no questions asked.

Focus Blast would be figuratively perfect for Pidgeot. it'd allow Pidgeot to hit Heatran and all the Rock-types that will likely wall it, and give it at least neutral coverage to every Pokemon. The last slot could be used for Sing or Nasty Plot.

I'd need to see some airtight damage calcs on a hypothetical Focus Blast from this thing before I felt even slightly comfortable leaving it in on any Rock type. Unless it is a confirmed OHKO (which considering low SpDef it could be for some) Pidgeot is tapping out. Gotta play smart.

I'm also not sure if I would be less surprised by Focus Blast or Sing being added. Neither is guaranteed but both are at least semi-reasonable. I dunno.

It'll need Sing or Nasty Plot to do anything against Rocks.
Even at +2 with 100 base special, it won't even guarantee a OHKO on a 248/220+ Heatran

Real talk here, I brought up a modest level ball pidgey for the purpose of breeding up a shiny of my favorite burd before I knew it was going to get a mega. Should I keep going with a modest nature or try for timid? I'm edging more toward timid since it should get a larger sp.atk boost and timid will cover if it gets a lousy speed boost

I wouldn't be surprised actually if Pidgeot was popular enough to be UU by usage. There are so many Fighting types and a handful of Grass and Bugs that could use an asskicking there, and a speedy special Hurricane would fare well. Even Smogon considers Vivillon usable in UU, and with Pidgeot's extra power it might find itself there. Don't underestimate fast, powerful, confusing Flying STAB.

It really does want some new moves though. I hope GameFreak was kind, because there's no way they were unaware of the double-edged threat No Guard provides. Hurricane spam is a nice trick, but extra goodies would go a long way.

Pidgeot can fly at mach speeds, why does it not get Extreme Speed? Even Boomburst would make sense, it is just breaking the sound barrier just the same as flapping wings at mach speeds. That's why Swellow gets Boomburst even though it has shit Sp A, its because it is really fast and would simulate a Boomburst at high speeds.
