>>21264742It's very strongly implied, if not outright directly stated, that the pokemon themselves LOVE to battle. Hell, they practically live for it. The realtionships they make with humans are usually mutually beneficial for them. They get top notch care, food whenever they want it, and most of all, the battles which the crave, which in turn make them stronger and stronger.
I'm pretty sure it's been said that the reason wild pokemon attack a trainers pokemon, and not the trainers themselves is because of jealousy toward the captured mon.
As for Mega Evolving, I know "muh anime", but there's at least one instance of a pokemon WANTING to Mega Evolve in order to better handle a situation, so that's not forced either. Hell, in that canon, you HAVE to have a strong bond with the mon in order to properly mega evolve in the first place.
