This is because animefags are often ostracized by other groups and the majority of people because anime these days is closely associated with immaturity, NEETs, perverts and other weirdos, so they never get to be an integral member of a friends circle, unless these friends are other animefags. Since most people aren't animefags, specially in school and college, animefags tend to be lonelier.
Every human has a need to socialize and feel like they're part of something. The easiest way people satisfy this is by socializing with people you see everyday, like in school or work, and people with common interests, like videogames or movies. For reasons stated before, people naturally and justifiably keep a social distance between them and animefags, so animefags have a tougher time in the first case, but have an advantage in the second, since other animefags will also want to socialize, and do so easier with other animefags because of their handicaps in the first case. This is how IRL animefag groups form, because animefags often can only socialize with other animefags.
