Alright, /vp/, let's talk numbers.

What boosts does this guy have to get in order to be some degree of usable?

Will enough boosts in speed and attack give it viability as a glass cannon? Will giving it megahorn, as well as some other moves bee what it needs? Or is it destined to fall to the very depths of unusable?

I hope not, because this is one of my favorite megas in a long while.

I don't see why Gamefreak can't give absolute shitmons like Beedrill and Pidgeot higher boosts than 100 BST.

Just putting Mega in front of its name and giving it a handy ability won't make it automatically good. Beedrill and Pidgeot are absolute trash (gameplay-wise), but it'll get the same treatment as the likes of Scizor or Gengar who were top-tier even before they got Megas.

It's sad.

Imagine an inverted Technician for Scizor.

Instead of weaker PP moves getting boosted by 50%, all STAB moves get a 50% boost.

Basically, unless I'm misunderstanding, Mega Beedrill may potentially have the hardest hitting U-Turn in the game. He gets Knock Off from previous gens too. Those two things combined are bread and butter.

While Bug doesn't have the best coverage, Poison is quite amazing, You just need something for Steel types in your arsenal (probably Drill Run) and Knock Off takes care of shit like Gengar that would resist both STAB moves.

Everything beyond this is speculation.

If he gets good or even decent SPA, he could run a mixed set using shit like Silver Wind (I know you nerds like gimmicks) and a small host of other special moves, including but not limited to hidden power. Beedrill might've been UU in XY had his stats been a bit better (Scope Lens-Sniper, while gimmicky, is pretty powerful with minor setup). Imagine what he could potentially be like with some stat padding in the right areas. If he gets the same treatment as most of XY's Megas, look out Scizor, there's a new bug in town.

I'm all for Pokegen and what not, but it would be nice to be able to just use XY 6 IV Dittos and not have to spend time making new shit illegally.

Even if you just dump the boosts in atk/spd, it's still going to get murdered by priority moves due to its garbage defense. stealth rocks and an aqua jet will be a clean kill.
The only way i see of salvaging it is to transfer some s.atk to its defence and putting the rest into atk./spd. megahorn/gunk shot are also nice options

Realistically, it's going to get boosts in at least three stats. So, if it got +30 Attack, +40 Defense, and +30 Speed, it'd do okay.

An "effective" higher BST. But not an actual one. There's literally no reason that Beedrill will get over +100 to its BST, considering the fact that there has not been a single Mega to have anything but +100.

Basically U-Turn about fishing for weakened enemies then once they lower their guard and decide to sacrifice something to get in a counter safely. You Fell Stinger them for the +2 attack and unlike say Scizor Beedrill will likely have the coverage and speed to actually sweep.

Close Combat with no STAB = 120 BP
Lucario's Close Combat with normal STAB = 180 BP
Mega Lucario's Close Combat after Adaptability = 240 BP

Ugh, no anon. They only do that to balance potentially overpowered mons. Gardevoir got an Attack boost because GF probably thought it'd be too bulky with +20 Defense.

Look at the Megas that have lower BSTs, they all get really efficient, minmaxed stat boosts (see Manectric, Absol, Mawile).

My estimate for Beedrill was +40 Attack, +20 Defense, and +40 Speed. Why the hell would they waste any points on Special Attack? They're not stupid.
