Doesn't even fucking apply to Pokemon since I liked more gen 5 designs than gen 6 ones, and I think that gen 2 had the most forgettable shitty Pokemon even though it has the second least number of new Pokemon.

Hopefully in gen 7 they start adding more new Pokemon including more actual evolutions instead of glorified form changes.

Gen 5 is my favourite gen and the number of Pokémon is one of the many reasons as to why. It felt fresh seeing all these new mons.

The new Pokémon in Gen 6 were so spaced out that running into one felt impossible at times. The region felt hollow and I actually struggled to playthrough the game with a Kalos only team because getting enough Kalos Pokémon took forever.

I know it's not right to blame Mega Evolution entirely, but I feel like we could have gotten so much more with Megas around.

Gen V had only been like 5 minutes before Gen VI and it had given us over 150, the most of every generation ever.

But boo-hoo, Gen VI only gave us 70 more on top of the 150+ that were like a year old

Black and White were like a reboot in terms of story, but not gameplay.

Ruby and Sapphire broke away in terms of design, plot, storytelling style, while also completely changing the battle mechanics.

Black and White was awesome in terms of story and setting. It made the story more cinematic, separated the non-native pokemon, made the camera more dynamic, etc. But did it really advance gameplay at all? Triple battles and like... shaking grass are the most significant things I can think of.

It's a known rule that Pokemon will either have good designs and poor competitive capabilities or shoddy designs and fantastic competitive capabilities.

Known exceptions are most Rotom forms, Greninja, and Goodra.

gen 5 "fixed" a lot of old stuff
like sturdy or storm drain, and buffed/nerfed some moves
also changed stab calculation.
Also included HAs wich changed the way to see and use a lot of older pokemon.
Those are things you dont notice much but are glad they exist.
in general made things more balanced than gen4, but accidentally made weather wars.

I feel like it's a quality over quantity issue. IN MY OPINION, gen V overall had the worst selection of Pokemon (although the fact that you can only choose from the new ones at first may have helped me form that opinion.

Gen VI overall had a great selection of new Pokemon and a great selection of old Pokemon. I wish there were at least 100, but it's better than having a bad selection.

although when Z comes out with 50 more new Pokemon, then I'll really be able to form an opinion.

how many of the random shitmons from gen 5 do people still care about? Gen V was GF trying too hard and throwing too many Pokemon into the game. Ideally I'd like a balance between the two of 100 or so new Mons.

Also if you love Megaevos you're partly to blame for the lack of new Pokemon.

I don't think an increase in quantity means a decrease in quality.
That said I really prefer the gen VI designs in average way over the gen V designs.

I hate Mega evolutions though. Had we only gotten 70 new ones and no Megas I would have been more than pleased.

Gen V was a shit. My least favorite region and I never finished any game. But the thanks to the crapload of pokemon chances were I would like a couple. And I do. It has several cool pokemon. Unlike gen 6 with few pokemon and only 1 I actually like(smogonsword AND only then because it is good competitively, if it hadn't been I would probably find it shitty). Gen 6 was mediocre with Megas the only saving grace. But i'm probably a little harsher then most because I find pokemon designs shitty in general with only like 30 out of 700 being well designed and pleasant to look at.

When you got hit by an attack, you could tell whether it's special or physical by the color your Pokemon flashed once hit. Black flashing would mean physical and White would be special. Kinda funny since Zekrom is physical and Reshiram is special
