You don't need to come up with a final design to submit. Submit the different iterations people have done of the design and they'll all be included in the survey. You need to at least convince people that there is a solid idea at the heart of your design and showing people the numerous changes made to the design will help to win them over.

Surveymaster, can you put out a brief survey eventually that nails the theme of the game?
Something like "Hope and Despair" is enough, just so we have something official to go by.

Also, does the (low) number of pokemon our dex is supposed to have still stay? How high is the number exactly, and how official is it?

Still can't get over the bees.

Can an artist perhaps take a stab at the honeypot ants? Could be a gender difference so that one gender provides / carries honey and the other gender is the attacking force.

Ah ok, how come?

I thought it'd be a good way to handle secondary bug typing for a pokemon that isn't primarily bug. And the type effectivenesses all suit the concept.

Bringing back my opinions from the previous thread:

This would be a cool first stage, despite how big it already looks. Make a second stage based on a tri-wing boomerang, and make the tail become a third wing.

Also, maybe axe the feet entirely so that it's concept is that it never touches the ground. Pure-flying type.

My problem with the design is that it has no personality. The badger himself seems bland and his facial expression seems generic. He should be acknowledging the beehives on his limbs, he should be nervous or even outright panicking.

Also, its proportions need to be more exaggerated, the beehives should be bigger and rounder almost as though they're swallowing his arms and legs.

Simply put, it needs to be more extreme.

Too ambitious? Thought it could work like Spinda's patterns where you encounter the basic form or one of the 5 alts. Same move pools but different abilities. Really liked the idea.

I would dehumanize it/recolor but I just wanted to capture the feel of the actual paintings. Also I really want a Vincent Vanghost.

Basically, I've gone through and identified as many patterns as possible from past Pokedexes from which we can take ideas from. I've also put down common environments and possible ones we could have, along with what lives in them. Pokedexes take a lot of influence from their map in order to achieve balance, so I think it's important we try to figure out our environments soon.

Bear in mind this is only a draft, so if you have any feedback or other environments, please reply.

You could make a note that most pseudo legendaries are dragon type.
You should definitely note that the "Extra Mascot" is basically always conceptually linked to the mascot duo, completing or contrasting with the theme they set.
And the Burnt Forest also invites Ghost types.

Only thing I still want to say is that the list doesn't cover niches like "Healer" or "Pokeball Encounter." Not that those are necessary, though.
Otherwise great for orientation. Once we have a few mons of which we can be certain they'll get into the dex, we can start allocating the slots to them, see what's still needed for balance.

There are extra notes in the E column concerning observations on types and that. I'll add some on the healer and Pokeball encounter though.

And the pseudo doesn't always cover dragon. I thought it did too, but when I looked I discovered I was wrong about that. There's at least 3 examples where that didn't happen.

And I think we're aiming for around 150 or a bit over.

the intended type was normal/ghost for pretty much all of them, but I did have 2 different ideas

1. they're all split evos of a common evo, maybe something invoking the look of a blank canvas

2.They're all forms of the same pokemon that can't be changed and maybe differ depending on the area they're found in. They would all have the same name, type and classification, but different stats and maybe slightly differing movepools (all of this would be to not take up as many slots in the dex)

We still had "Reality vs Dream" or "Waking vs Sleeping", "Idealism vs Pragmatism" or "Flaw vs Ideal" or "Bitterness vs Bliss." And of course "Life vs Death" or "Finality vs Infinity." The main concept of the rabbit was that it was everywhere, making people think it's the regional rodent, when in fact it's quite literally a plague. Hence the foxhounds to hold them back a bit.
There was talk of giving them a hard to obtain evo if the survive long enough (meaning a level up at a fairly high level) but that was just spitballing ideas. It has mostly been considered a standalone mon.

It might be too many splits and a lot get proposed. I think the area idea is better, that way it's like being in a cave but it's not just zubat over and over. Different stats, abilities, slightly different moves would be nice too.

My hope was it being in an abandoned museum where you have to retrieve the fossil or in an Opera House thing. One could have ghost types, bandit pokemon, while the other can have lyre birds, that popcorn one, whatever.

Seeing as fairy types can overwhelm dragons so easily now, I think it's best if we reserve the pseudo spot for something that really needs it. Could be a dragon, or fairy, or whatever. So long as it looks like it can kick ass.

Hope and Despair is pretty good and does match the proposed creatures. Rainbow Serpent brings water and the ability to survive. The Minka Bird is an omen of death, and thus people would despair.

Anyway, I'm not entirely sure if we wer voting on concept or design. I only considered the concpet, but maybe others did not. We need to specify this. Concepts form the foundation, designs can be changed.
Also, while it's a lot of extra effort, knowing what the concepts behind the designs was would be vital for the survey, seeing as the descriptions given can be misleading. The rat with gems on its back, for example, is inspired by tranquillitiyte, which I'm sure nobody knows anymore.

I think it means people are just happy with the general design and concept. We can probably still tweak them where needed, but on a basic level they're part of the dex.

We still need to work out our environments though. No point putting a dex together without places to put them. And we need a balance as well.

There are mountain ranges with snow on the border of New South Wales and Victoria. Tasmania occasionally gets snow as well. It's not thick snow by any means, but it's still normally enough that people get lost and die up there.

The concept is that the fish in the six-pack survive pollution, but only one of them grows full-size, hindering the others to fully develop.
Growing in pollution, it's natural that the fish turns out garbodor-like.
Also, the remaining three fish died, thus the idea of the skeletal dropoff, which was not included in the survey but is included in the concept.

It came with the earlier designs, though many attempts were made to make it look good.
Some wanted a sharklike fish and torpedolike fish left and right, others wanted the smaller fish to stay completely unchanged, others again wanted all three to develop equally.

What is it you didn't get? That six turn into one? I feel like the label "Pollution Line" which I believe is what it was referred to says it all. Though I'm preinformed and thus not fully able to judge this.

Not all of the concept art is equal. Looking through the dropbox I see a few designs that make a little more sense, but I find >>21297530 to be nonsensical.

Generally I feel that evolution lines should be self-evident. Some sort of split or double evolution might be nice, but again I didn't see that mentioned in the survey.

Like Spinda's patterns? But having them split between areas makes it easier to find what you want specifically. Whatever works, I think random would be more fun.

Now for something a little crazy. I imagined it as a plot twist evo but having it run as it's own line with the paintmon could be cool. Should tone them down but wanted to get the main idea out. Rock/Ghost types.

I fully understand, and it actually is a serious issue, especially if you would vote differently now. Fortunately, not many designs have vastly different concept art. The sixpack is arguably the biggest extreme, especially due to the ansence of the skeleton.

By the way, a few distinct designs were voted together (like the Gumnut and some Swan thing) which is also problematic.

Speaking of the Growala, do you remember the concept? It was a fused evolution, wasn't it? Whereas the dropbear and the koala prevo together evolve into one of the evos, depending on which of the two is more dominant. Something like that.
It certainly wasn't a classic split evo, so we need to bear that in mind.

Here's what it was refined to. One of the six becomes a whale. Four of the five remaining are attached to him in some way. The sixth died, becomes a split ghost-type.

Train six pack fish, it evolves. If empty space in party, dead fish fills in slot, like Shedinja.

Yes, I do find that better. As long as all six fish are accounted for, it shouldn't be confusing.
I do hope that the final whale design finds a better way to communicate pollution than random splotches of colour. I never really liked garbodor, though I suppose that's more opinion than a fundamental problem.

I like the idea of trying to incorporate the six pack into the skeleton. I think a simpler colour scheme like the leftmost design would be better than a rainbow or plain pattern, and I think the fish with X eyes is a tad morbid. Maybe make it undead too?
It's hard to say too much without knowing how many fish will be in the skeleton as opposed to the whale/shark.

Yeah, but obviously a well drawn design portraying an idea is more likely to get good votes. Sure the concept was alright, but a cat in a cardboard box? There's always a possibly that the idea just failed.

Next survey will apparently have better explanations or maybe the idea by those working on the mon. That should help some. This surveys descriptions were just like "x or something?" which doesn't really tell what the pokemon is meant to be.

Was the painting really that unpopular?
I feel we are gonna end up with a pretty middle of the road dex if everything has to be liked by a 66% majority. It's fine if a design is hates by 50% and loved by the rest. Kind of like mafia terrier, the Honchkrow of our project.

I mean paint ghost, adding up the "yes" votes and the "no, fix it" votes only got 62% of votes for at least a re-design. Are we going with the 66% threshold again? most 'mons who evolve twice have drastic or obvious changes from every stage, but this looks like it had a drastic change only at the final stage. (the first stage and first evolution look too similar)
