Hey /vp/ I've played Pokemon since Red/Blue but I'm new to the competitive scene. I believe I've got the understanding of IV's, EV's and natures down. The only thing I'm really stumped on is how to spread out EV's. For example if I were making a physical tank I would wanna put 252 in Att, but would I wanna put 252 in HP or defense? Also any other tips someone new to competitive play should know. Thank you.

If you're ttalking about a pokemon that can take physical hits and hit hard, it's more common than not to but 252 HP evs, 252 attack EVs with an attack boosting nature (adamant would work)

It's nearly as bad as having all your underpowered bros get Mega evolutions that just put them into the 'viable at higher levels' power range. Nothing like not being able to use your favorites to their full potential because of an understandable but still kinda arbitrary limit.

252 def if it's only going to be taking physical hits, HP if you'd rather it can take both but not as well

Its best to split the two often but that's complex and requires knowing the tier well enough to know what threats to stat for
