Also, coverage. Grass/Dragon stabs and hp on special is really limited. Physical sets are lackluster due to only base 110 attack and mixed is even more terrible.

An ability that doesn't increase its damage output, forced to rely on low BP moves unless it runs Leaf Storm, then it has to switch out all the time, Grass/Dragon is poor coverage, and its only other option is Focus Miss, if it gets good defence investment, it'll be too weak and slow, if's all power and speed it'll topple over to any physical attack.

We can't say until we know what kind of moves it has access to, tutors are coming back which might mean it gets a great variety of new sets.

Lightningrod is useless though, it turns an x4 resist into an immune, big whoop.

I think that it has a good advantage in having both offenses high though, you could run it mixed, run it special with specs or scarf, or run it as a physical SD sweeper, possibly with leaf storm thrown in for breaking physical walls.

Well, that makes a great spread for a mixed sweeper.

With that speed it can run Swords Dance with no prob + 2 Physical attacks and Leaf Storm / Draco Meteor if it gets it.

I predict the following set:

Sceptile @Sceptilite
Naughty/Lonely or Mild/Rash
EV: 252 Spe / 252 atk or 252/ Spe / 252 Sp.Atk
- Swords Dance
- Dragon Claw
- Leaf Storm
- Earthquake / Thunder Punch / Rock Slide

It'll be very fun to use.

M-Pidgeot can switch too, Tyranitar isn't attacking as it switches in. No one in their right mind would leave Pidgeot in on Tyranitar even if Stone Edge did have a 20% chance to miss.

I don't see Pidgeot becoming an OU staple at all, unless it gets unbelievable move upgrades, but it at least has a pretty unique niche. With good enough boosts it could do nicely, and certainly will do well in UU. Additional moves would definitely help it a lot though.

It's the same concept than with Mega ChainChomp and Mega Mawile, you comeo out on something Sceptile resists / Can easily deal with (preferably an electric type), get off a Sword Dance and Mega Evolve (hopefully activating Unburden in the process) as oponent switches. Then, at +2 attack and maybe +2 speed you are set to go to town. You've got 2 physical attacks, your dragon STAB and a coverage move of choice, and Leaf Storm, that is still tremendously strong even if uninvested in special attack, thus, you can deal with some physical walls or whatever doesn't care about your physical attacks (little stuff comes to mind with Dragon+Ground/Electric/Rock) and thus get a check/counter out of the way. Either way, reducing attack on your sceptile is a bad, bad idea.

Congrotulations Sceptile fags, this outcome is really good for you all, and this is coming from a Swampertfag.

I just hope my bro gets just as good of a spread as yours.

Yeah, but I think that EQ will be the best option since that way you can deal with Potpans since you can usually rely on Dragon Claw to deal with Birds since they usually have mediocre defenses. Being SE on Skarmory would be very nice though.

Drain Punch could also be an option to consider, but with Fairies being a thing you'll want to hit those neutrally at the very least. Which is the more reason to run EQ, since that'll hit them the hardest.

They added 20 points to both defenses and only 10 to special attack. That is a pretty good investment. considering the 10 speed and 40 attack.

Sure 25 in each defense wouldve been awesome but they were never gonna lower a Pokemon like swamperts special attack.

Also yeah, Swampert is as godly as its Mega Form represents. And don't forget the 1.5 Waterfalls. Lets see...

In rain Swampert has...

... A 80 x2.25 Waterfall with a 30% Flinch chance coming off a beefy 150 attack stat

... A Speed that outruns base 190s. Thats faster than fucking Deoxys-Speed.

... 100/110/110 Balk. More than fucking Mew & clones. Enough to set up Rain on its own.

... Perfect coverage on Ice Punch. Much more options besides that.

... Only one weakness

This fucker is the new Excadrill. What am I saying?, he's way better than Excadrill ever was. The only thing that could hope to wall M-Swampert is Skarmory, and you can use Surf for that one. Pidgeot shouldn't be fighting Rock-types, Mega or not. Unless it gets Focus Blast and enough boosts to outspend and KO after hitting the switch, it should be switching out. And that's ok, believe it or not. It doesn't automatically render the Pokemon useless. Mega Pidgeot has an exploitable weakness, you need to play around it, but it has a useful move and got boosts to the right stats. Now we just need to see how the stat distribution shakes out and what, if any, new moves it gets. But Mega Pidgeot is a big improvement no matter what, and I could definitely see it making a name for itself in UU, for example.

Realistically, a Modest/Adamant Scep with 244 Speed EVs outruns all Jolly Talonflame. Meaning that no Talonflame can revenge-kill or U-Turn Sceptile when it's subbed. It has to take a Dragon Pulse/Thunderpunch first or raw switch.

In this version, instead of the mixed version I posted before, a more revenge-style Scep could force teams to make tough choices. It's very presence keeps things from using Thunder Wave, and switching out potentially gives it a free Sub.

Florges holding a Mega stone can have the stone knocked off or stolen, but cannot use Symbiosis or Bestow etc. to give Scizorite to Scizor. It could give the stoneto anyone NOT Named Scizor but not to scizor.

Well actually no. Defensively, Dragon adds 2 weaknesses, and doubles another, while only taking away one weakness and doubling several resists (water, electric, grass)

Offensively, it lets it hit Fire-types not named Heatran neutrally but thats pretty much fucking it. Dragon is a horrible coverage typing for Grass if it doesnt come with a massively expanded movepool simply for being a dragon. I.e., Electric/Dragon is pretty great, but Ampharos wasnt given Flame Thrower or anything, just STAB Dragon Pulse, and Outrage gained STAB which is good with its high bulk + increased physical attack.

Theres almost no benefit to gaining the Dragon typing

Dragon resists Grass, water, electric, and fire and is weak to Dragon, Fairy, and Ice. It hits only Dragon Super effectively, is resisted by Steel and hits fairy for 0 damage.

Read again. The grass type gains nothing beneficial from Dragon besides losing the Fire weakness.

Fire and Dragon is literally the best offensive typing in the game - neutral to fairy, Dragon is only resisted by Steel which is weak to Fire, and fairies are neutral to it. Azumarill is the only Pokemon in existence that can resist both fire and Dragon. Oh and Heatran, but tell that to Reshiram (And 'zard gets rocks and EQ)

Mega Sceptile will be OU for sure. It's fucking terrifying.

110 / 145 / 145 are some of the highest triple offensive stats in the game. This is almost Deoxys tier. It's got a movepool a mile long, Swords Dance, SubSeed, an effective immunity to paralysis, and Leaf Storm.

You know how Aegislash 2HKOed almost everything in OU with its 252+ SpA Shadow Ball? I've also tried running Mega Ampharos, Chandelure, ect. They all deal ridiculous amounts of damage with great neutral coverage.

They're all slow as well.

Mega Sceptile is fast enough to run an Adamant / Modest nature. It clocks in at 389 / 427 Speed, which isn't quite Mega Aerodactyl or Alakazam tier, but still impressive.

With Modest, it outspeeds Jolly Talonflame, Weavile, and +1 Adamant Dragonite. With Timid or Jolly, Mega Sceptile is faster than Adamant Scarf Landorus-T.

Leaf Storm's 130 base power is more than 50% stronger than Aegislash's Shadow Ball. Sceptile has revenge killer written all over it.

Plus, there's the fact that simply having Christmas Tail on your team makes Volt Switch and other Electric moves a liability for your opponent. No momentum for Rotom-W. Thundurus is loses if it predicts incorrectly:

+1 252+ SpA Mega Sceptile Dragon Pulse vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Thundurus: 298-352 (99.6 - 117.7%)

252+ SpA Sceptile Giga Drain vs. 16 HP / 240 SpD Assault Vest Azumarill: 182-216 (52.7 - 62.6%)

252+ SpA Sceptile Leaf Storm vs. 16 HP / 240 SpD Assault Vest Azumarill: 312-368 (90.4 - 106.6%)

252+ SpA Sceptile Hidden Power Fire vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Ferrothorn: 204-244 (57.9 - 69.3%)

0- Atk Sceptile Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Heatran: 268-316 (69.6 - 82%)

It'll have a niche in OU as a powerful revenge killer and specialized assassin. I can't fucking wait.

THIS is going to be the set to go to. It won't get Draco Meteor but anon was right on everything else. Special Sceptile doesn't hit quite hard enough for a mega and has a bad special movepool, with Swords Dance though MixCeptile will be quite fearsome, specially if you get off a Lightningrod boost.

If it comes in on the turn Sceptile sets up/Mega Evolves, regular Venusaur can survive any hit it takes on the switch with enough health to survive whatever Sceptile throws at it on the next turn once it's Mega Evolved. Uninvested Mega Venu's Sludge Bomb is an OHKO over 60% of the time. So there's one hard counter no matter what you use.

If it's already Mega Evolved and at full health, it can switch into any unboosted move Sceptile has other than Focus Blast and kill with Ice Punch. And Focus Blast only wins you the 2HKO 49% of the time.

Full health, ready-Mega always survives anything on the switch bar Modest Leaf Storm (25% chance to OHKO) and then outspeeds and OHKOes with Aerial Ace on the next turn.
