yfw this is only a prototype to having full air routes. They will work similarly to surfing, except you find wild pokemon in clouds (you will be flying on a non specific bird silhouette similar to the generic surfing model). Trainers you battle on these routes will challenge you to sky battles, which is why they are returning. Perhaps these routes would connect different land masses in the region that can't be reached otherwise.
