Updating XY wouldn't give the XY user the mega stones, it would make it so that they could go online and fight somebody with mega Metagross.

I think one of the problems they encountered was how to handle trainer models, for both XY and ORAS.

In FRLG and Emerald there were sprites for the Hoenn Trainer and Kanto Trainer respectively, that's all it was, a sprite. With the hacking tool nobody found anything for a Hoenn Trainer and since customization is out of ORAS there's no need to code in what a Kalos Trainer would look like.

It's still bullshit that two Gen 6 games can't play against each other because of a lack of a fail safe. They fucking knew they were going to remake Hoenn.

You can do everything except use new Mega Evolutions in battle against XY people, nor can you trade any of the new Mega Stones to XY.

Basically, anything that has to do with a new Mega Evolution won't work with XY.

this isn't like DP/Plat or whatever with only minor updates from previous games. megas are a brand new features that impact the game a hell of a lot more than anything before in the series, so to say that they need to just patch all that new stuff for free into an older game is not how things should work anymore

All of the forms were compatible with all games, as in, if someone in Emerald were using Speed Deoxys against a Ruby player, that Ruby player would be fighting a Normal-looking Deoxys with Speed Deoxys's stats.

First of all Emerald is not a fucking remake and second, they still worked, just you could only see the sprite in Emerald.
On top of that they couldn't patch the game back then and if they could they should've done that.

If they had planned ahead at all, they would have added the ability to add new Megas into the game through patching to keep compatibility between games.

in the DS games, every new form had to be treated in a case-by-case basis: they had to code whatever key item / npc you needed for the change in addition to the stats of the new form.

They don't need to do any of that with megas, since they're already a core mechanic of the battle engine (they can even distribute the mega stones via Mystery Gift like they did with Blaziken). If it weren't that easy to add new ones to the dex, we wouldn't have that many megas announced for ORAS in the first place, seeing that the remakes are supposed to be running on the same engine that XY uses.

I've always defended Pokemon having multiple versions and exclusive Pokemon to each versions because Pokemon is made for trading and collecting.

XY aren't programmed to allow Pokémon without Mega Evolutions to Mega Evolve. The alternate forms in previous third versions worked because the actual change happened outside of battle. If you use Black Kyurem against a BW player the game just sees a regular Kyurem with Black Kyurem's stats and ability, no issues there.

Whereas if you use a Mega Metagross against an XY player, the game sees the opponent trying to Mega Evolve a Pokémon that can't Mega Evolve and doesn't know how to process it. It would probably make the game crash.

You can't battle an XY player with ORAS Megas or Primals, end of story.

In BW2 the new forms was useable in battle, but BW players where at a disadvantage because you didnt know what form it was in right off the bat.

Adding forms to the game engine is very trivial. I did it with a simple edit of some files as a Proof of Concept with BW.

Alright, let me get this straight, let me just try to understand...

XY will not be patched. Since there's no data in those games about the new Megas, then you can't battle or trade with ORAS players who have the new Megas, like you can't trade the new Mega Stones over to XY, you can't battle anyone who has the new Mega Stones on their Pokemon, and so on, right? Since no Mega Metagross exists in the XY data, the game won't know how to process it and thus, it's incompatible?

However, move tutors and the like will still work, right? You can trade a Kalos Pokemon to Hoenn, teach it new moves, and trade it back?

The thing is, as someone else mentioned, those changes happened outside of battle. Mega Evolutions change during the battle.

Unless they could simply display the message for the XY player and show no animation, but proceed to act like everything else will be in place (including the Mega Evolution symbol). I kind of feel like that could work, but I also feel like there might be something wrong with that.

They initially planned for this, as was seen my mega latios, but they had problems later on in developing the patch or it was seen as too time consuming.

You fags are literally retarded Jews. The games will probably work the same way compatibility worked with BW2 to BW with Black/White Kyurem. They can change form but the older game will not have the model that newer one does but both will interpret the forms stats and abilities the same. So, for example, if an ORAS player is battling an XY player and say the ORAS player mega evolves his Metagross it will say so on both games but only ORAS will have the mega model. In XY it will still appear a regular Metagross model but with a megastone icon next to the name. Also XY will have that Metagross with Tough Claws and its mega stats the same way ORAS just with no mega model.

This isn't just a case of not patching the ORAS Mega Stones to be obtainable in X and Y. It's a case of X and Y not receiving any sort of patch, even one which literally just tagged the Pokémon as being able to Mega Evolve-able, not including the models.
Other things that won't be able to be in X and Y are Brendan and May's models when battling between XY and ORAS.

With Giratina, you could still use Origin Forme Giratina, but it wouldn't use the new sprite. The old game would just accept that it had better stats and a new ability, as if it were a hackmon. It's probably one of the reasons the games don't crash and freak out when Pokémon with illegal stats appear.

We have no idea yet. That's not been confirmed. Either we're gonna have to have some Time Machine shenanigans, like Gen 1 to Gen 2, despite it being the same generation; or they'll update Pokémon Bank to allow trading of Mega Stones.
