Aegislash and Megamom dominated VGCs and were overused as fuck.
Gen 4 was the competitive generation
So they picked two Gen 4 mons to counter them.

Lopunny cant really do much to Megamom but it can definitely hurt her a lot, and annihilates Aegislash. It is literally tailor made to counter aegislash.

Meanwhile, Gallade is tailor made to counter Megamom, hence the 95 defense. That jump was just enough to take a Return and then KO with Drain punch, and if she survives, Gallade is still faster by a significant amount and hits her again. Fake Out shenanigans wont work, and PuP is resisted. Megamom cannot stay in on Gallade or she dies.

With max HP investment, HJK is doing 75% in shield form. Not a OHKO but still impressive. Special Aegislash is only doing 35% with Sacred Sword.

Nice.

Does anyone have any idea what spread M-Salamence is most likely to run in VGC? Just a rough estimate would do, I want to know if Return would result in a 2HKO or if Ice Punch is needed.

Because if you're literally flipping a coin as to whether you're about to kill it or go down 2 stages of attack, that's not a counter, you're a check at best, and that same 50/50 situation is exactly the same thing that got it sent to Ubers in the first place.

Ran some calcs for Lopunny in a VGC enviroment and was going to save them anyway so figured I might as well share.

Fire Punch isn't listed since it dealt less against relevant targets than HJK anyway.

I am going to make some defensive calcs later today just out of curiosity mainly, but I don't have the time now so I'll add it to the pastebin later.

If you remember any relevant targets that I forgot about then I'd be glad if you could point it out, since I want to be entirely sure about when I breed my Lopunny about what nature will be the most beneficial, and at least be aware about certain matchups for it.

PuP is the only boosting move but Lopunny has a wide enough movepool for it to be sort of a waste. Besides if you do the calcs then he can deal enough already to guarantee an OHKO Aegislash-Shield when Adamant. He's just not meant to be used as a sweeper.

Run the calcs, Aegislash can't guarantee an OHKO. The nearest it gets is 87.5% chance to OHKO with max investments and beneficial nature. In OU this is somewhat common, but in VGC he can't afford to run 252+ SpA.

Low Kick isn't worth it, HJK from Adamant M-Lopunny OHKOs Aegislash which is valuable as fuck.

Fake Out is always good in VGC, but I prefer to have a 2HKO on M-Salamence over it considering that M-Lopunny is pretty frail.

I always felt HJK was too risky in doubles. If you don't predict the Shield coming in the right moment you'll find yourself with <50% HP, -2 Atk and a useless bunny.
