There's 27 (potentially 9 trainers) in between the last ORAS image and the XY art. And then an additional 51 (17 trainers) in between all the XY trainers.
Of course, this doesn't mean there's going to be 45 more trainers, or even 19 only counting the ones in between all the ORAS trainers. But it does mean there's easily the potential for trainers to be there and that their art was simply scrubbed out.
There's also some duplicate images, such as Wally and the contest costume PCs.
