Nope. I personally prefer RSE, FRLG, DPPt, and HGSS to the newer games. Gens 3 and 4 feel comfy.

Not at all. BW, and BW2 especially are extremely solid games, argueably the best ones in years.

XY is great too, but it's just not a whole product, as most first version are.

Nah. Convenience wise, XY may be better than BW/B2W2, but in terms of everything else, XY is just bare. Z could fix that though.
