Anime Serena is only based on Game Serena they differ too much to be remotely close to be the same character. Even in design small things like recoloring her collard and removing the glasses from game Serena's hat. Not to mention personality wise.

I don't like to sound like a buzz kill, hell I often am one of those who posts Cilan pictures with an excited look and say to trust based director. BUT. I've grown to like the pairing although I have always thought of the shipping aspect of any anime as dumb, and hate myself for liking this one pairing. Anyway if in the chance that it does turn out to be true both of them would likely get written off and a new character to take over the main character mantle.
That's why I would just recommend staying on the fence of things and just enjoy whatever the writers throw at us.

Having followed Ash's story for so long, I'd really hate it if he gets some shitty and rushed ending or even worse, the show just gets suddenly canceled and he doesn't get an ending at all. Wouldn't be the first show that that has happened to.
I couldn't care less what would happen to the new character as long as Ash's story has properly finished.

Even basic character interaction between them like they had last episode is a good thing since it establishes that Amour isn't the driving force between both characters.
Also I'm sure there will also be random Amour teasing in filler episodes in the future whenever they feel like it. They probably save the bigger moments for major episodes.

Watching this series I've noticed that the camera focuses on Serena and Ash being together a lot, something that rarely happened with other girls. The picture in the OP is one of many examples of this. Do you think this was made on purpose by the director of this series to solidify the foundations of a potential romantic relationship between these two? I doubt Ash will get another retcon with a future girl to be honest. Truthfully, this is way too much and does indeed feel like Ash's last adventure.

The show plays in like every country and is part of one of the largest multi media franchises in the world. It doesn't have to adhere to the same quality standards most cartoon shows do in order to be ok'd for new seasons. It is safe and that's why they never do anything with it and why networks still play it. Just look at the time bracket it gets played; that should tell you how much demand it has on network TV. It's just a safe slot filler for syndication.
