Why would you use Explosion when you and your opponent are down to your final pokemon? Unless you think it's an unwinnable battle and you want to go down with a bang, that's just an all around stupid move.

Also the destiny bond case would be problematic because everyone would run it as a trump card.

You faint before explosion because that's how you do damage.
You faint after life orb because the recoil is after the damage.
How is this complicated?

They do.

But to actually tie with another player, you must have the time run out while you have the same number of Pokémon with the same percentage of hitpoints.

Which almost never happens in normal battles.
