I don't see how this one is a problem. In fact I still think Jasmine and her quest is one of the best Gym Leader interactions we've ever had.
Johto's Gym Leaders were so dang interesting man. 4 and 5 were great too. 5 probably attempted the "Gym Leaders are actual characters and people" thing the most, which I liked.
But Gen 6 and (OH TEH NOES, THEY'RE INSULTING PRECIOUS HOENN ;_;) 3 had such bland Gym Leaders.
