Isn't this really two separate questions? Are you saying that there would be pokes with 3 types (the ones that currently have levitate) and that these specific pokemon would have some ability other than levitate? Why not just say "what ability would they have if not levitate" or "what would the game be like if levitate acted as a tertiary flying type?"

Yes, that would also be a way to phrase my question. However, I wanted to stress that they would keep their immunity to ground type.

well eelectross with wonderguard would be invincible. I guess you could also answer this question by looking at haxmons who carry air balloons and can choose abilities that complement their immunity to ground.

There was always something a little fucked about the levitate ability.

Many Pokemon with it are CLEARLY flying types, in ORAS you FLY in the skies of heonn on your non-flying type flying type Lati@s. Levitate is a bandaid on a flawed system.

Flygon is a flying type, Lati@s are flying types, Hydreigon is a flying type, most levitate ghosts are flying types.

How can we fix this?

More than that, lavitating and flying pokemons are immune to moves like bonemerang. i think surface level moves like eq and low kick and ground moves should be on seperate layers, so weather a move is surface is just an extra stat, like what move make contact or affected by iron fist ability.

well yeah, but it would be nice if abilities still kept some relation to the concept of the pokemon in question.
