the gimmick that's given to nearly everyone in the debut generation, but almost no one gets it in the subsequent generations?

If they somehow make megas competitively unviable (or make them banned in official metagames) then they could get away with that, otherwise they have no choice but to make new megas to avoid a stale metagame.

I'm not saying contests are bad, anon. It's okay if you found them enjoyable. But the truth of the matter is: they don't matter in the grand scheme of things, they don't affect the main game, they're a side-game, a mini-game.

megas are needed to keep some really lacking pokemon relevant. hopefully they ease up on giving them to already great pokemon and give weaker mons some love. or just return back to giving regular evolutions again.

Mega evolutions are too perfect

Any fully evolved pokemon can get one. Anyone's bro can just arbitrarily get a serious boost in competitive viability (and, because a large percentage of the fanbase is young adults who care about that, that matters) and they don't 'become' a different Pokemon: it's just a 'form.'

I don't think anyone can deny that a lot of the ORAS hype has (or at least had) revolved around learning what pokemon are getting megas.
