I'm with OP, some of the flying animations just make me facepalm. If they HAD to put them in, they could've done them as secondary animations with the normal ones still being on the ground. Xatu looks moronic like that, as do most of the others that were on the ground in Stadium/Colosseum but now are just hovering derpily because of a single gimmick battle type.
