Too few resistances, not enough relevant poison types, typically too frail to hold up against most fighting types.

Pairing Psychic with rass is one of the worst things you can do.

Pairing Psychic with Steel is also a horrible move in gen VI, as it still has a lot of weaknesses. Pure Psychic might even be better.

Look at Metagross, Bronzong and Jirachi, all of them suffer because Steel/Psychic is so bad now. It doesn't give good coverage if that's what you're hinting at.

there are 84 psychic type in general, out of a total 26+719 = 745
84/745= 0.11

in the ou there are currently 56 pokemons, 9 of which are psychic
9/56= 0.16

generally speaking, psychic pokemon are above avarage.

I know i proved my point when people stop arguing and start calling me names.

EVERY type gain psy stab and psy and fight res when paired with psychic. the res is good for normal, rock, steel, ice, dark, fighing and poisons while the bonus stab is good for rock, grass, poison and ice. you can say however, that those types would benefit more from pairing with other types, like ghost or bug, or that those benefits are not good enough. is that what you ware trying to say?

Both Gardevoir and Slowbro relies on their secondary typing for attacking. Psychic is doesn't help them defensively.
Mew and Gothitelle are only OU because of their movepool and ability. They would have had that spot whenever they where psychic or not. They might even have been better with other typings.
Lati@s and Medicham are the only ones that actually uses their Psychic typing, mostly offensively.

Stop saying that Psychic is good for Steel. It's not. Steel is a defensive typing, it loses the Fightning weakness but gains bot Dark and Ghost. Which is a downgrade for a defensive mon.

That doesn't make them good. Especially when Dark hits both Steel/Psychic and Grass/Psychic for SE damage. I don't even know why you would use a Steel/Psychic or Grass/Psychic against another Psychic type.

You're completely missing the point of this discussion.
We are discussing if the Psychic type is good or not, not each individual pokemon. The point is that most pokemon does not get better by pairing with Psychic.
If you want to claim that some few psychic pokemon are good, but for entirely different reasons that's fine. But I'm done with you then. Because it hasnothing to do with if the Psychic TYPE is good or not.

Steel might help Psychic. But Psychic does definitely not help Psychic.
Dark pokemon crushes Steel/Psychic, so what if you can hit them neutral, they are still SE against you.
Steel/Psychic helping against Psychic is just dumb. Psychic is already bad against Psychic so your opponent is braindead if he sends out a Psychic type to deal with another Psychic.

Yes Steel is a walling type. And no, Fighting resistance does not make up for the added Gost and Dark weaknesses. More weaknesses on a wal pokemon makes it shitty.

No. When a pokemon can get good despite being Psychic doesn't mean that the Psychic TYPE is good, especially not if the pokemon could have been better without it.
Most of tem are good because of traits that are completely unrelated to the type even. Like Slowbro is good because of Scald, Mew is good because of the movepool(which is because it's the ancestor).
I can give you Gothitelle, as Shawod Tag seems to be connected to Psychic.
Few of the rest are good because of Psychic weaknesses, moves, STAB or so on.

dark became an extremely common second type, lots of teams consist of at least one dark type. then knockoff happened.

It doesn't help that pokemon of those types are often put into roles that thematically fit the type but don't help considering the type matchups
e.g. Ice types are often slow, "bulky" walls but with 5 weaknesses and only resisting Ice its in vain.
Psychic types often rely on stranger tactics that affect stats, flow of turns, items (especially items) and such others, which isn't bad but they'd be better off just Sweeping since very little actually resists Psychic.

Grass has actual benefits and isn't the worst typing ever, depending on what its given to. Water/Grass, for instance, is about 20 times more awesome than Water alone is. Grass/Electric is also pretty bad ass (only weak to Fire, bug, and ice)

Its just that Grass' resists are so mediocre that it ends up pairing with - of all things, Psychic - to be a gigantic mess of weaknesses comparable only to the slightly less terrible Grass/Ice and infinitely worse Ice/Rock typings. Sadly, all of these typings have been done at least once except Grass/Electric, though Bug/Electric HAS been done. In addition, even a regular defensive typing like Steel or Dragon, when paired with Grass, gets some of its key resistances taken away and compounds the problems the types would have as a mono-type (with the exception of a ground resist for Steel types)

Gamefreak over thought psychic type's influence in the meta-game.

They made dark and steel in response to psychic's op status too early, instead of stopping the constant dual typing pokemon with poison or fighting.

Then they deem the type itself so "high tier" that a sizable chunk of legendaries have it.

Basically psychic and dragon are the ruling parties in the 600 and above bst metagame. While steel and ghost rule the 600 and below bst metagame with an iron fist.

With only water and normal left to moderate eveything.

Most broken thing in the universe?
All fairy resists (Poison, steel, Fire) are weak to ground. Mold Breaker gets past levitaters, but still has problems with Crobat or Skarmory
