Of course, it's not like this wasn't a thing before. Traditionally, Pokemon have only competed with eachother for a team slot in one role (or more,) e.g. sweeper, tank, wall, and so on. But Megas have to compete for that role AND with other megas, so currently you have a large number of megas that see very little use in VGC or OU, even if they're good and can work well on the right team.
