I wonder why jigglypuff was the one to be included in smash bros 64

we already had a small cute pokemon (pikachu) fighter. so why add another instead of using any of the tougher looking pokemon, not to mention the fighting types?

poliwhirl wouldve been a good choice for example

Pikachu and Jiggs are series veterans from the gen1 era, and Mewtwo is only back because the smash fans wanted him.

Agreed that Charizard/Pokemon Trainer should have been mons from other gens though.

I think the reason usually given is that they were pretty much able to copy-paste Kirby's model onto Jigglypuff. And it's popularity in the anime at the time and all that jazz.

I was gonna add Zoroark to the list too, but they seemed to panic with it, and start pushing Lucario again when Zoroark didn't get the same support.

Partially because the older Pokemon stuff in Smash Bros (pre melee) is mostly inspired by the Anime.

Especially the Pokeball Pokemon, there's a reason that Goldeen is the useless fish that flops around and does nothing instead of Magicarp, and it's entirely because of the Anime. Same thing with Togepi replacing Clefairy
