I remember the ending to the grease/infamous "pimple face" one was pretty bad. My guess is that he focuses on the events in his story rather than on how it ends.

Ever hear about Hideshi Hino? He's another horror artist like Ito, and I think one of the pionners of horror manga in general. The majority of Hino's outrageously gruesome manga were actually targeted to kids, who were his biggest audience.

I imagine that children in Japan regular read horror manga.

Gengar doesn't get pandered to nearly as much. Outside of the Shiny M-Gengar event I can't think of a single time they've pushed him as hard as Charizard/Lucario
