So if I understand correctly, with ORAS coming out we will be able to catch every Pokemon.

Could these be the last main series games to be released?

If the series ended do you think you'd still be playing in a few years?

If I remember right I read somewhere that they plan to have around 1,000 pokemon before the franchise ends.

I would say we got another 10 years before it starts to die out, but that's just my own estimate

I'll put it this way, some consider the series to have ended after gen 1/2 and still play games from those respective gens. People will still play the games years after the series does come to an end. It has a big nostalgia factor to many, so I expect it.
Although, I can't see Nintendo letting the franchise die off that easily with how much money it makes. I mean, it's a multi-billion dollar franchise.

Are you retarded? How does that mean the series will end? They always make every non-event pokemon available before the generation. ends, with the exception of gen 5 because it was rushed. I mean why else would groudon and kyogre be in soulsilver and heartgold? Why would kanto and hoenn starters be obtainable in HGSS?

Going by sales alone, I want to say Crystal or Emerald. (Sources give different numbers, but they are consistently lower. Considering gen2's higher sales I'm leaning towards Emerald.)
All the first games of a gen (that are over a year and a half old) have at least 15m sales, followed in sales by the second pair and the improved version of the first pair. (for gen 5 they're basically the same)
