If mega stones were created in that 3000 years ago war by using that canon, why the hell can Mewtwo, a pokemon that has artificially been created by humans, mega evolve, yet its ancient predecessor Mew can't?

I always assumed that the stone just happen to exist in nature long before Mewtwo was created, and that it just happened to resonate with its genetic structure.

We don't really know much about the Mega Stones, but I assume they existed before Pokemon did. It's the same with the evolutionary stones - Fire Stones have probably existed for ages, but there just weren't any Pokemon that resonated with them.

I like this explanation. After all, Fuji knew about Mega Stones in Origins.

Maybe Mewtwo's creation also caused its own Mega Stones to appear somehow or Fuji figured out how to create them and simply never told anyone after he bailed out of the Mewtwo project.

...or actually maybe it's just this, which was posted while I was typing. I'd like to think that the Mega Stones come from nature since they are stones, after all. Evolution stones supposedly come from nature, and there's no explanation for where those come from.

Of course, the real explanation is that it's just a game and the item properties exist for gameplay and continuity reasons. I.E. if they had simply made a general "Mega Stone" that could be put on every Pokemon, then you would be able to attach it to Pokemon that can't mega evolve now but could in a future game (like Pigeot, for example), thus causing a continuity problem.

Mewtwo was actually designed over 3000 years ago for the war using the same magitek that produced artificial Pokemon like Golurk and weapons like AZ's death ray. The Mewtwo in Kanto made by Fuji and co. was just a modern recreation based on ancient records. The Mewtwo in Kalos may or may not be the original.

If the case is that there's a solid canon, the tech level is all over the fucking place, stories get partially retconned all the time, power levels make no sense
Even just the way items and breeding work make little to no sense from game to game, and don't even get me started on evolutions

The thing is, this isn't a bad thing, games are allowed to exist in a vacuum from others, or to at least reference the older ones without technically being in the same canon

I used to think the power plant was gonna be Team Flare's base for creating artificial Evolutions when Mega Stones were first announced. Which would eventually lead to the ability to reverse evolutions because back then X and Y were supposedly to do with genetics. Then it turned out to be nothing.

Perhaps Yveltal and Xerneas' energy is not the only way to create Mega Stones? It could be possible that other Pokemon of sufficient enough power under the right conditions and circumstances could also create new Mega Stones. Maybe something happened in Kalos (or even the Unknown Dungeon in particular) triggered the creation of a Mega Stone in Mewtwo's presence?
