Right now, there's a lot of powerful shit flying around OU. Teambuilding is kinda constrained, but not overly so, and there are a lot of powerful sweepers and offensive mons out there. It's impossible to build a team that can handle everything.
Thundurus is great because it provides a soft check to a bunch of fast, frail mons and setup sweepers, a fast Volt Switch, and a great offensive presence with good resistances all in one slot. Without it, the metagame wouldn't be as fun to play, and it kinda keeps a bunch of stuff in check (on a meta level).
Why don't you morons try something other than hyper offense? Bulky offense mons don't mind paralysis. A Heal Bell user can allow you to KO Thundurus, switch out, heal the paralysis, and try to set up later.
