Its like if an mmo made every person invisble to you that is above the old level cap or has a piece of equipment until you buy the exansion. Its not like having it there is going to get you it unless you buy it yourself, and anyone who was serious about the game was probably going to buy it anyway.
And even still, maybe GF could lock XY from having the stones but allow people to see the mega evos.
However, I really don't care that much. If it was some ploy to get more people to buy the game, I doubt it considering they are going to be running two servers when the game comes out to support online battles. They probably just fucked up the item indexing and didnt leave themselves room to go back and add more.
