Is its body turning black and blue due to be always wailed on? galvanization/bluing? Some weird rusting? Futuristic magnets to levitate?

This. You guys look way too far into things while extremely underestimating Gamefreak's incompetence. I don't think Gamefreak knows shit about Geology, thy probably just said "oh man, it would look so cool with blue rings! And rocs and magnets are the same thing, so throw some crystals orbiting around it!"
