Rocks have a very interesting history of metamorphosis from ancient times, so that evolution and change is something to explore. They can also yield incredibly mysterious forms and structures, which is intriguing to the layperson like me
So, I wouldn't be too fast to dismiss someone's interest in rocks just because I myself am not really interested in them
