You have to beat the elite four 44 times with Charmander, Wartortle, Gloom, Grimer, and the pokegods Charcolt and Pikablu. None of them can faint/die, and you can't use items.
Then, you release all your pokemon except for one that knows strength and surf, then you go to the truck and push it out of the way to catch them all.

Actually, all you really have to do is go to the captain, get cut, and then white out while you're still on the ship.
The ship will never go away because you never left it, and you have cut.

Still find it crazy how kids learned about all these glitches and "secrets" by word of mouth. Sure some didn't work (a la venustoise) but it's funny how kids all over the U.S. speculated the same shit.

There were Pokemon rumor websites as far back Gen I, in fact that's where I learned about Missingno, Safari Zone, fakemon shit, etc., all before Gen II. I deleted my game with a Pokemon Mall Tour Mew so I could try using strength on the truck.

Nah, the internet was how it all spread. Back then the internet was new enough that only one or two kids in a school had it and if something was online then it must be true. People copy-pasted huge lists of bullshit rumours like this between websites. The more websites had a specific rumour, the more true it must be, so the one kid with the internet rushed to tell all his IRL friends
