It's interesting to see how a given culture chooses to represent its large-scale woes in animal form. You have Godzilla as the theropod manifestation of the atom's fearsome might, but you also have far older myths of virgin-eating dragons that may have symbolized the harsh taxes demanded by corrupt officials.
Being able to command the Pokemon equivalents of those larger-than-life tales sorta gives a sense of control over those Big Fears that still threaten to bring civilization as we know it crashing to its end.
That and they look really cool. Like, Hydreigon has THREE heads, that's like three times better than just one. Plus it can fly and shoot lasers and shit, fuck yeah.
It's Pokemon, we all should've outgrown this shit years and years ago.
