Hey VP. Let's talk about mono tgpe teams. What type do you like best? What 'mons are you running?

I personally prefer Bug, thinking of doing one with thiis guy as a lead.

See personally, I think that wouldn't count, because a Pokémon on your team no longer fits the typing. Y is fine, if course, but X feels like cheating. Like using Mewtwo on a Fighting team because "muh Mewtwo X"

You can't use Mewtwo-X on a fighting team.

Charizard-X counts because megas aren't individual pokemon, just in battle forme changes. It'd be like saying you can't use Greninja on any teams because of protean, or you can't use castform on mono normal because of weather formes. Only the base forme counts.

I've wanted to try doing a mono run for a while now and I'm going to do dark first then bug. Is it more fun to breed for the team then transfer them or catch them in game as you play through?

Thanks. Bug seemed like it wouldn't be that hard to get a team for. Just time consuming. Other types do seem like they would be a bitch to get a decent team though.

It also bans aegislash but only on steel teams

In-game you can use whatever, of course

I had a mono-normal team last gen but with togekiss turning to fairy it's just not the same. I'm thinking a mono-dark team with Sableye might be cool, though.

How so, if it's a meta full of different types? I understand if everyone's using the same types (or a bunch of similar ones like rock and steel) but it seems like it would be the opposite, since people would have to use other Pokémon besides the #1 A+ bestmons

Can't be, Stone Miss and Sneaky Pebbles are a thing. Plus Thunderbolt is widely distributed and lots of pokemon carry out as a rule. Though with Zard, genies, and Smogonbird I can imagine it'd be obnoxious.

Mono-flying destroys other monotypes.
Flying is a great thing to have STAB for, combines with other STABS, and is aided by further coverage moves. It has Defog to blow hazards the fuck out and most of them have Roost, not to mention new shit like Mega Salamence being allowed to exist. Flying is in the upper echelon of types and really only loses to Sneaky Pebbles if you can't Defog.

With the large amount of things that get a secondary flying typing, it becomes hard to counter even by traditional flying weaknesses (I.e: rock, electric, ice). The main problem in my opinion is skarm and lando-t. You surprisingly don't see any of the other high ranked genies much, just lando-t and thundurus-t.

I recently bred a Modest 5IV (-Spe) Lickitung and it's working out really well so far in the Battle Maison.

I wanted to run some calculations on Wring-out but the Showdown calc. doesn't have it listed as a move. I wanted to see the differences between Choice Specs and Life Orb.

Ooh, thanks for the advice! What kind of M-garde set did you have in mind? I was also considering using Mega Altaria or Mega Diancie once ORAS was released. It doesn't look like there's too much else that can check scizor without m-mawile though, is there?

Also now that I think about it, how do you deal with venusaur/any strong poison attacker? So far I've been using dual screen Klefki, but that only gets me so far.

This is the set I run, use wow on the switch in. You could also replace it with healing wish or dbond.
I basically rely on scarf regular garde to deliver psyshock on poison attackers if I running m-maw. Other than that, I don't know. You don't see many poison teams on the higher ladder, anyways.
