I'm the guy playing it (sorry for not having played it in the last couple days, today I've been working on that new pastebin I just mentioned), and it's pretty damn good. The new music and graphics are all good, the gameplay is balanced, the one problem with it is the plot sometimes drifting towards edge, but it tends to be incidental (read: It happens whenever Silver/Kamon shows up).

Speaking of which, here's the first draft at it. I left a few out just because I couldn't find the sources for them; if anyone has them, or if there are any other hacks I should add in, any notable errors, etc., let me know.

Just started a randomized emerald and got a cool looking Umbreon that's Ghost/Flying with Speed Boost and it recently learned Slack Off.

Definitely my favorite so far.

I started with a Normal/Poison Slowpoke as my starter. It's not that good.

No ridiculous difficulty and try hard puzzles, that need 3h to solve or something like this.

And if you hate edge, stay the fuck away from the hack Resolute. shitty fakemon, shitty-edge looking sprites (everyone has fag anime hair and wears only black). The dialogue is awful, looks like it was originally in japanese and someone who doesn't know the language too well attempted to translate it into english. And they don't even let you have your own starter. You have to stay with Riolu. There is no option for anything else.

Well I'm surprised this cave is causing me so many issues. Union cave isn't really suppose to be that difficult. It's just the combination of the wild pokemon that are too fast for the majority of my team with the trainers who have a way to hit my Pokemon in their weaker defenses. I suppose that's the 'kaizo' part, not that I'm bitching or complaining, but, making really slow progress.

The Totodile line is really letting itself down here, P/S needed BADLY.

I'd say one thing to keep in mind is how many times the player is going to be going through the area. While it may look pretty it gets annoying to traverse an area that's very limited in how you can go across it.

Mmmmmm here (can't be bothered to trip up), I can confirm. Feraligatr really lost his push and I eventually boxed him to replace with Suicune.

Won't forget him, Electabuzz, or Venomoth, though. They weren't with me against Red but they did their duty while I had them. I hope it ain't autistic that I have all my Hall of Fame screens still saved since I've been playing for the general. I enjoy playing games with you guys, the interaction makes each playthrough special and it's the only way I could've ever finished RR.

Rescue Rangers seems to do the trick with some people, but you could also play Reign of Legends (the prequel to RR), Victory Fire, Resolute, the Dark Rising series, etc.

Though honestly, there are probably a ton of even worse hacks out there that only lasted to one Gym before the hacker got bored and quit, but all the ones I just listed are at least complete.

Well there are flashcarts, and I did see someone who got a text editor to work, nothing beyond that. I'd hope someone would make some more progress on Gen IV or V before they move onto Gen VI because I imagine making new maps would be even harder there.

Okay, THAT'S a neat way of going at it. Even being able to catch the Pokemon before reaching the last one in the horde is a nice touch, too. But I'd still like to see a finished Wild Double Battle ASM for Gen 3 hacks that allows you to get away with catching both without KOing the other.
If Orre can do it, why can't the other games?

I've been playing on and off (mostly off), lots of real life shit and interviews taking up my time.

Only notable thing that happened was my slug evolved. Still on Cycling Road, there are a lot of Bikers and most of them have Fighting-types which is bad for Magcargo, and it's like the worst route to have to keep backtracking to the Pokémon Center on so it's taking a while.

I think the problem is Fire Red. It's been the main base for hacks for so long that it's been pretty much used up. People should put more effort into the other gens so hackers have more things they can do with their hacks.

From what I can tell, there is some concern among rom hackers about the difficulty of implementing mega-evolution, so maybe that's what the holdup is.

Well, if you're depressed, you could always try playing something cozy like Pokémon Christmas. I don't know if that's 251, though (I do know the Pokédex changes), so if you're looking for a definite 251 hack, maybe try Pure Silver? It handles 251 hacks pretty interestingly since Legendaries and such get their own added encounters rather than just haphazardly being put places.

Got to Koga's Gym. He has Weezing/Muk/Venomoth/Crobat. Upon leaving the Gym Oak meets up with me, tells me he can't talk for long, tells me Team Rocket just took over Silph Co. and that he needs me to get over there, giving me a key item that can get past the guards, I guess the hack took away the need to buy a Lemonade. Nothing else plot-related has happened.

FUCK POKEMON CRYSTAL KAIZO SERIOUSLY

The whole thing's grindy as fuck. there's a reason why Pokemon games aren't designed this way. A goddamn timesink piece of tripe. I'm barely at the first gym and I'm thinking of just dropping this shit show. Should've stopped after the first rival fight. Picked Chikorita and had to grind to level 12 just to have a fair shot at beating an ember/smokescreen spamming cyndaquil. Restart after restart because hax. Burn. Miss. Burn. Miss. Crit! Is this supposed to be fun? Grind or keep resetting until I get lucky? I get a "challenge" can be rewarding in its own way, but there's a right way and a wrong way to do this.

Stadium games? Right way. You and your opponent are on an even playing field (for the most part). No grind. Just your tactics during battle and team building skills. A real challenge. To where you have to play smart and not just dump time (grind or reset) to win.

But if I want to win in Kaizo? Oh hey lemme just over level until I bulldoze everything, or just be under leveled and get shit on no matter what. Where's the actual challenge? Where's the fun?

Wackass hack. Waste of time. Fuck this shit. Fuck you guys. Fuck me in the ass. I mad. I'm out.

I never had to grind once, unless it was late game and I wanted a new party member to join and caught it under Lv. 100, which is after you have Lv. 100 trainers as the norm and have plenty of Lucky Eggs.

And by that point, your opponents are above level 100 in major battles anyway. Grinding isn't the way to beat the game, the only way it to ____git gud___

Hoenn Remake guy here. After a bit of a break, I'm back in it. Working on Route 119. It is the longest route, I think tied with 111. Been working on it for a while, but still only half done. I might try some Dive maps next to test the feasibility of this tileset.

Well they were Lv. 49-51 and I'm Lv. 49-50 so she did get off a few good hits and KO a couple of mine. I could've fought some more trainers on the routes between Lavender and Fuschia, but I feel like I'm taking too long playing this game so I went straight to Saffron. Being underleveled isn't a bad thing either, it's nice to not just steamroll opponents and they have a shot at beating you after all.

I'm honestly expecting this game to end up how I feel about Z/O: Good ideas for gameplay (HM items, Deltas, alt formes, new moves, secret base functions), lackluster execution and balance. Seriously shadow pokes were just REALLY horrible compared to how I recalled them in colluseum

I mean they patched it out in Z/O, but I'm still salty when Aegislash was effectively in both sword/shield mode due to a big bug with stance change, and they still decided to slap it on the final bosses of the single player game

Check the wild encounters in something like Goldmap. I did, and saw that you could get both Ledyba and Spinarak (though with the same Day/Night requirements as usual) in Pure Silver. I also checked and saw they added maps for places like Seafoam Islands and Cerulean Cave so that should be a second sign.

CITF's ban is ending in a few days or so at least, so he'll be back. I haven't been playing as much because I've played five complete hacks (three of them bad), a horrible alpha, and most of this one so far, and I'm trying not to get burned out so I'm shifting attentions back and forth between this one and some other games. Plus, there's really not much to bring up with Dark Violet since, though the game has a new plot, it's not much more obtrusive than standard RBY so there'll be long stretches where it's a simple difficulty hack with nothing really to report. I'll make sure I get to Sabrina at the least today, since that should be the end of the hack when she's defeated.

After that, I know exactly what I need to play next; Jagold has another hack out there, Skyline, that came to my attention after I started playing this one.

But, keep keeping on, Hoenn Remake guy. I hope you can add everything you want to the game when it's all complete.

Okay I haven't beaten Sabrina because they multiplied the number of Rockets in Silph Co. by like 1.5x, but I don't want to appear like I didn't work on it.

Silph Co. is invaded like usual, at some point I find an Upgrade to evolve duck.gif, and eventually I got to Blue.

We eavesdrop on Silver talking with Giovanni. Silver's all "Daddy please love me I'm not really a bad guy I'm just misunderstood!" and Giovanni returns with "You're stupid, everyone is stupid except for me" and they walk off.

Blue is the first trainer to have a full team of six, with Pidgeot/Machoke/Rhyhorn/Gyarados/Growlithe/Venusaur, Venusaur being highest at Lv. 53.

Okay so.

I fight through Giovanni's admins, and Giovanni sics his son on me. Silver now has with him Kabutops/Porygon2/Nidoking/Altaria/Houndoom. Guess Giovanni has been hoarding all the Moon Stones all this time.

Giovanni heals me himself because Pokémon villains aren't the brightest, and then takes me on personally. His Pokémon notably take a level jump of 2-3 each compared to Silver's team, and he has Honchcrow/Omastar/Nidoqueen/Rhydon/Kangaskhan. His Nidoqueen is at Lv. 57.

After beating him, Blue and Daisy rush in to apprehend him. He taunts at us about how he always has a plan for everything, and then his admins explode the side of the building of Silph Co.

I'm thanked by the President, he gives me an Amulet Coin because they stole all the Master Balls, a man gives me a Dubious Disc so duck.gif reached final form, and we battle Sabrina with her Mr. Mime/Exeggutor/Slowbro/Alakazam, Ala being at Lv. 59 and serving as our final boss in this beta.

Green rushes to tell me I need to get to Cinnabar, the path there is blocked by pic related, and that's the end. Shame, the hack really is great and I'm sad it won't be continued in its current form. I'm sure the new hack will also be great if it's finished, but there's that big "if" since if he didn't finish this one before starting over from scratch, he might not finish that one. Even with its incomplete state, I definitely recommend the hack.

Hey folks,

So around this time last year I started making a hack of FR/LG with the idea just to make a straight no-drama, no bullshit nice pokémon adventure, featuring:

- No Rival
- No Rockets
- No Angst

instead, replacing them with what I think are nice little rudimentary quests just using flags for updates. For instance:

>Go through a farm route with little houses and fields and a lake
>Talk to villager, checks flag 1, flag 2, both false, he talks about his pokémon
>Press A on the pier of the lake
>invisible sign entity in the lake plays dialogue about fishing, sets flag 1 to true.
>Talk to same villager, flag 1 is true, he says he caught his Polywag in the lake out back, will give you an OLD ROD if you feed his DODUO
>Player gains Bread (non-item, text only, sets flag 3)
>Player goes to DODUO sprite, hits A
>DODUO checks flag 3, if true, plays dialogue about feeding, plays cry, sets flag 2
>Go back to villager, check flag 1 and 2, both true so plays 3rd dialogue, gives you OLD ROD sets flag 4
>Talk to villager, flag 4 is generic "Hey, how's that rod working out?" schtick

I basically want to just fill it with nice little interactions and hidden sequences like these. No battle gimmicks, no storyline, just Animal-Crossing-tier comfy, battling trainers and winning badges.

How feasible do you think this is? I had a go last year, mostly for mapping but did write a few neat little multi-stage interactions with villagers like this and I think if I took the time to do a couple of these in each town it'd make the game pleasant.

I'm not suggesting it'd be exciting for the majority of pokémon players

I think I have the patience, though I work an awful lot so it is taking me a long time to get things done. It's not something I've been doing with the plan to necessarily release, though I'm not against releasing with zero fanfare when it's done. There's enough ego on the internet as it is.

Originally this was just going to be a simple fetch-quest RPG built on a pokémon title, since the Pkmn section of the menu doesn't even show up until you get them. I originally just wanted to build a comfy little world with lots of new, relaxing town themes where you talk to people, help them with things, go into houses and inspect things, everything basically being a unique sign. "A selection of books about Machamp Forestry", "This fridge has a drawing of a Bulbasaur stuck to it", just little flavor text everywhere.

Basically what I think I'm doing is a slice-of-life Pokémon title about helping people, having a nice time and well-thought-out battles (I work videogame QA so I like to think I've got a knack for balance).

If anybody who has worked on a big hack would like to weigh in about feasibility of all these flags and dialogue strings that'd be great. I've already begun on the game, putting time in here and there (mostly mapping) but I'm worried I'll get a couple of towns in and run out of space in the rom? I'm just worried of being too ambitious (which is a funny concern for a game about doing nothing) and getting burnt out looking for free space in the rom to write to because I just HAVE to finish adding this conversation about the benefits of Sandshrew brushing...

I've started my own map, two towns, three scenic routes and a spooky forest so far. No screenies atm as I'm at work. I'll get some later, though!

The interactions so far consist of things like the above. There's a section early on where you have the option to steal a kid's bike, but if you do his brother will show up periodically to kick your ass at pokéymans. It's as close as I'll get to a rival in the game.

I'm glad the response has been positive so far, but I'm very aware that the more people say nice things, the greater the chance a guy is going to show up and point-by-point tell me why I'm an idiot to think this is feasible..

At any rate, I'd like to lurk in these threads, but I don't want to make a nuisance of myself by adopting a name or whoring a devblog or anything.

There really isn't a major fan-region hack out there without some problems. The closest I've played is Brown, and even in that there's a bit of cringey dialogue here or there, though it's very light on plot so it's not an issue much.

You can always just look to see if anything in the paste suits your fancy.

As stated, it was brought to my attention that Jagold made an unfinished, abandoned six Gym beta of a hack called Pokémon Skyline. It's completely unrelated to the Ruby Destiny series, but I still feel I haven't gotten off Jagold's wild ride until I've played through this. Even then I haven't gotten off the ride because he's making Broken Timeline. So let's give a quick five-minute impression.

The title screen is just vanilla Ruby, though it has custom music. It seems the music, as far as I can tell, is a mix of new compositions and music used in Life of Guardians, not sure if any vanilla music will be used like it was in LoG.

Jagold forgot to edit Birch's speech, too, since it still makes reference to Littleroot. The PCs are the default sprites, though their new default names are Landon and Terra; if that's a reference it's not as obvious as Aerith.

Landmmm finds himself in a place called Starlight Beach, with a soaking wet, frightened Eevee washed up ashore. The Eevee seems to want to go with you, and you're given an option but it's a "But thou must" situation so you take the Eevee. She's female, and even though I can't nickname it right now I already know she's going to be Rose, because I'm a sucker for reusing names even if they're bad.

We see a Town Map, and it seems it's only part done since there are only names for the most of the western half of the region. It's unfinished, so that's understandable.

So I'm starting another hack, Pokemon Flora Sky. They changed the animation in the beginning and sprites are a tad different, but nothing too unique, which is good.

Professor Birch is still the mang, but everything is different. Now a visual difference between night and morning, and the town is Small Town. Completely different. There is a day care center in here too, kinda weird and rather lame because some people might just throw their pokemon in there and not raise them with the squad.

Sky introduces me to Wally, Wally's font changes and makes it kinda creepy though I think it was just an accident for Sky's font color changes too. They show the same exact animation and even use another ralts on "How to catch a Pkmn with Wally". Real slow like in emerald.
After animation is over, you do not keep the ralts. Wally gives you running shoes which is great because fuck walking. Continue going right and you find a pokemon center with what appears to be a tollbooth of some kind beside it.

You choose between looking at a clock, the map, play the lottery or teleport to an area on the map. Teleport does not work as of this moment, probably unlocked later on.

This hack seems promising, will continue tomorrow.
