The absolute main draw of Pokemon when it first came out was never its gameplay, it was CATCH 'EM ALL.
People loved Amie, Megas, riding Skiddo, following Pokemon etc. Even people who "hate pokemon because its too complex and ugh those designs" have flocked back to X/Y because of all the periphery stuff.
I tells ya, if OP's prediction came true, the /vp/ outsider hype would be outstanding.
