He was a good villain in that he got shit done, but his plan was bonkers terrible. He gets roped in with Aqua and Magma and their stupid plans as well, though A&M are probably the worst, since anyone with the tiniest fraction of knowledge about the planet could tell you that the amount of land and ocean is balanced for a reason.

It's a shame we can't have simple ruffian-type villains anymore like Team Rocket. They were the best.

you see the problem? the stories may be stupid because it's pokemon after all, but no villain is as generic as Ghetsis, he's basically just a Giovanni replica who hide himself behind victimism and what Zekrom and Reshiram have to do with his whole plan? They don't even come close to relate, if you want to take over the universe or some shit just catch a freaking Arceus or Jirachi not just two random legendaries, and besides for what fucking reason i should've been surprised that he was "MUAHAHAH EVIL" at the ending of the game? All Team Plasma does in game is beating up and stealing little kid's pokemon.

And regarding B2W2, well...

Ghetsis, so far, had the most creative and secure plans. Shit, he hid a temple under the elite four, set his goons upon it, managed to re-structure a new team after failing and come back with more power, successfully fused Kyurem and Reshiram/Zekrom and froze an entire city with a legendary powered airship.
Cyrus was great but Ghetsis is honestly a GOAT pokemon villain.

They're the fucking pokemafia. They were so successful they had their goals achieved. They essentially had the entire region on lockdown and had a fucking casino making them money 24/7, which they supplied with stolen pokemon.

I don't ever recall Cyrus wanting to destroy the world. I'm pretty sure he was going to create a universe in his image, and leave the original one to it's fate, as he believed it was doomed.

Magma/Aqua actually completed their goals; They found the legendaries, they dried/flooded the world. You were too late.
It was only because you caught/defeated the legendary that the world was saved, but shit, these mad men actually would've brought about the end of the world. Thats why you HAD to stop them at every turn.

Not really, since they regretted it at the end. It's pretty obvious the end of the world wasn't their goal, since they actually help you after you beat them. It was simple hubris, they thought they could control Groudon/Kyogre and ended up almost ending the world.

Gen 1 was a simpler time. Team Rocket were the bad guys, and you had to stop them. Plans didn't really matter at that point.

Like pretty much everything else in Gen 1 it has to be judged a little differently, unfortunately. Teams and plans weren't so established at that point. It was more of a good guy/bad guy thing in the first two generations. Gen III was really the first one with a clear, direct goal.

what's so complex about lying to other people but not being smart enough to keep your lies a secret?
besides i don't think it's terrible, i enjoyed his final battle a lot, he really had a good team
My only problem with Ghetsis is that final scene, it really pissed me off because it was the laziest way to conclude the story

Villains with reasons to be villain (muh childhood traum/abuse) get boring when they're constantly shoved down our troath, just as villain for the sake of being villain can be. However, the latter gets kind of rare those day, so it's refreshing to have one.

I thought Ghetsis was a good villain, with enough charisma and mad enough. In fact his plans are the most complicated ones out of all the pokémon villains, since he started his plan more than ten years before the game.

In all likelihood, they probably killed that Marowak by accident.

Galactic abused the lake trio and stole their power and blew up a lake
Plasma kicked around a defenseless Munna and captured Kyurem to abuse its power
Then there's Flare that intentionally tortured and possibly murdered a large group of Pokemon.

Rocket are small time crooks that work in the boonies.

Don't want to sound like an N fag, but I have to agree with them in some ways, him being one of the more unique villains, being he didn't want to destroy/control the world.

To many of the villains have to similar ambitions. They need to have the next one do something different again.

I consider him to be the best villian ex-aequo with BW Ghetsis, Lysandre and BW2 Ghetsis coming right after.
I liked his megalomania and nihilism. That last battle in Distorsion World was awesome (along with a god-tier music), his speech to his grunts made him look like Hitler talking to his troops, and the lab where he keeps the Lake Trio has a creepy atmosphere/music.
