I don't hate N but I don't think he's too interesting either. For a Pokemon game where story is on the back burner, sure he's pretty good. But if I had to pick a recent character as a favorite, it's probably Lysandre; Cyrus clone or not. His struggling and hopelessness felt quite real in XY. Outside of Pokemon, he's quite generic but in-series, he works.
