>>21545372>nobody knew which types were effective against other typesSpeak for yourself mate. My first playthough, I remember being confused between "critical hits" and "super effective" for a little while - getting to Brock, hitting his Onix with Vine Whip, I was like, "Holy shit I'm so lucky that move is so strong oh my god". Then I got to the route right after, with the kid who likes shorts. May I remind you, a ton of pokemon on that route are bug, grass, or poison. As a kid I was like, "Holy shit, good thing I had that steak of good luck in Brock's gym, I hit every single poke in that gym critically, and now I get uncritical."
By the time I left Mt. Moon I dawned upon that Zubat and Weedle always took "Not Very Effective" damage and the Geodude always took "Super Effective" damage. By the end of the game, I was pretty confident with my type match ups from trial and error.
Except Grass and Fighting. It never occurred to me in gen 1 that the Poison was the part that resists Fighting, not Grass, and it's fuckered me up up to this day (Ferrothorn does NOT take neutral from Fighting, fucking damnit)
