Common rain cores include Toed, kabu, lati ferro

kindra mhera tornadus thundy are nice additions

Rain offence is really the only viable option so you want to try and lead with hazards, set-up rain, go into a threat and start denting things, when shit gets low lati can healing wish shit up

Either formes work, prankster rain dance can help in a pinch/ if toed dies.

I'd recommend burd forme over cloud forme though, if you are to use torn at all. And l/o is generally better than specs since regenerator

Venu deals with most of those

hazards would be a nice place to start, heatran makes a disgustingly good core with venu and takes on more of gyars checks.

Bulky kb also checks gyar but is rarely seen. A very popular core a while ago was mgyar and gothitelle. Goth could deal with venu, rotom,ferro skarm and nuder other checks to gyar. just a thought

It's a generic offensive spread, with a few EVs taken out of special attack to put back into bulk (the benchline I used was 2HKOing physically defensive Skarmory after leftovers with hp fire) it's designed as a lure to bring in Ferrothorn and kill him for Gyarados, while also conserving more physical bulk for bellydrum azumarill. It's a little janky right now and I'll likely be changing it if it underperforms, but I simply don't see much reason to run 252 hp aside from the fact that natures favour investment.

Heatran is a definite possibility, he has excellent synergy with Gyarados and Venusaur, however I'm unsure what he's going to bring to the team aside from his typing. I'm contemplating a scarf variant as a pinsir check.

It's actually Gyarados' EVs I'm working on currently. They're just the standard strategydex EVs currently. But reading through the set details the pokemon the bulk EVs are meant to set up on is Ferro, and I'm using Venu to outright remove him. the speed EVs are also meant to outspeed noivern after a DD but I'm seriously thinking of dropping them as well for 252 attack adamant.

It's my first time in OU like I said, I haven't played the tier since last gen.

You can play subdd gyar a few ways, though through my usage I found the most success through semi-stall/balance. After you wear and tear your opponents team with your defensive core, you can set-up on a switch or on some key pokes such as gren, keldeo if you want to risk a burn, mamo, some scizors.

I've made a team focused on extreme birdspam. Considering that most teams have only a single check to birds, I decided to overwhelm it. If the guy is using a defensive core with, say, Heatran + Landorus-T + Mandibuzz, I'm royal screwed. In fact, Alomomola and/or Mandibuzz alone already gives this team headaches.

imo i'd replace scarf on kb with l/o or sub 3 attack. The best part about kb is how easily it destroys most stall teams, and limiting to one move is a pretty big hinderance, especially without outrage.

You yourself seem to get destroyed by birdspam, you've got one check and it's special. You also have no hazards which is an issue. Three burds is interesting but it leaves your team very limited in it's composition. EG getting blown back by burdspam/some stall teams/sand offense. I'd rework the kb into another set or another on completely tbh

So I've added Heatran, but I'm really unsure of the last 3. I'm thinking a strong wall breaking core isn't needed, Gyarados' whole deal is setting up on walls like cake, what's a good way to remove more of the offensively oriented pokemon in the metagame? I'm debating about using Mamoswine to deal with Thundurus.

Looking at Gyar's checks almost all are fire weak, and the ones that aren't are either fire neutral offensive checks or physically defensive and weak grass like Rotom. I'm almost considering swapping Venu for Char-Y, but I guess Charizard can't beat Manectric.

Spike stacking is probably my favourite playstyle as it's usually fast paced but it limits your playstyle quite a bit. You'll be fine with just rocks. You could do well with some wallbreakers like garde/terrak/kb or just shit with good coverage eg gren/gengar to make dents in opposing teams, then sweep with gyar when the time is right

can't use Gard without dropping Venu, but KB might do the trick since he can remove opposing Venu. Terrakion is highly under rated and CB is still a bitch to switch into. I know it's just a generally just worse Talonflame, but Staraptor forces tons of switches and delivers serious damage. Might be good if they use spikeGren

NOBODY runs dark pulse on Greninja unless you're in ELO hell. It only hit Aegis and you don't need to worry about him anymore. You can bring it up to say technically something isn't a counter, but realistically it shouldn't be a factor.

I'm formulating plans for my ORAS team and I think I'm going to be preparing it for playing doubles online. I've never played doubles competitively, or even considered it 'real Pokemon' until recently now that it's clear GameFreak are actually balancing for it and it alone.

I think I want to run Sceptile. Possibly pure-special, possibly mixed. With an Encoring Raichu who has Discharge to power up Sceptile. Thinking up other pokes to use.

I don't fucking know what I'm doing. Gyarados maybe, with all that electric protection? But then he dies to fucking Discharge if he stays out with Raichu? I almost want to use a Ground/Water pokemon, like Gastrodon.

Knock Off and a fighting type. Whenever I start seeing it too often, I immediately start putting Terrakion on my team. Chansey can stall a surprising amount of physical mons. I don't see Chansey a lot in the MegaMence meta though.

I was thinking about making a team with/around a Rock Polish Landorus-I, since it has good wallbreaking power and can do work against offense if it grabs a Rock Polish which doesn't seem exceedingly difficult, and the playstyle would be offense. Though, if Rock Polish Landorus-I isn't that great, then I wanted to build a team with/around an SD Bisharp, since it has a nice advantage over Balanced and Stall teams, on an Offensive team.

if the stats for M-diancie are correct that would give me:

this is before evs at level 50

also appearantly diancie learns earth power from move tutor in oras, giving it perfect coverage, so I am thinking mixed attacker with:

moonblast
earth power

what ev spread and final move do you suggest for my m-diancie?

Too much priority this gen to bother boosting Speed imo. At least go Modest and invest (way) less than 252 in Speed for bulk. What do you plan on giving up for RP among Earth power/Psychic/Focus Blast/HP ice?
I'd ditch Focus Blast, you can't afford to waste a turn missing on top of the turn you wasted boosting.
Pair it with a Slowbro and a Bisharp for synergy defensively. SR Chansey can bait a Defog for Bisharp. Heatran is an excellent bait to double switch into Lando but you're adding too many weaknesses.
Actually Landorus, Azumarill and Heatran looks better on paper.
Right now you lack a statuser, SR (which heatran can do), Priority, Taunt/encore and you have a water weakness.
You can work from there, I'm trying to explain my thought process.

Try pairing these 3 with Ferrothorn, AV Conkeldurr and Defog Latias.
Other suggestions are Rotom w, Stallbreaker Talonflame, Mega Venusaur, Scarf QB/chomp.

I've been running a terrible hyper offensive team that pretty much either falls apart or easily sweeps.

SD Natural Gift Talonflame is highly under rated. Natural Gift gets past its counters and if you don't use it recoil brings you into Liechi range, putting you at +3 for one final push for a cleaner to come in.

Rash nature boosts moon blast and earth power, while preserving physical bulk to take on priority. Rock polish and 28 speed EVs outspeeds scarf Latios.

If you use a different move instead of diamond storm you can use modest nature and move the 228 atk EVs to hp.

Okay guys, I'm wondering what is the best way for me to deal with talonflame on a monotype bug team. (I know talon is banned in monotype, I'm mostly concerned with cart and friends).

I've been toying around with max defense/HP investment crustle which survives two brave birds, which besides shuckle, pretty much makes it the only bug pokemon that can actually switch in on talon.

Only thing is it seems like crustle with that much defense investment might be dead weight. Should I go spikes/stealth rock/rock blast/knock off?

Also would it be worth it to run feint on M pinsir as a last resort? It could kill after rocks/recoil/whatever

Gooey dra's bulk is very good for UU standards.
What is a better item in your experience? And why is AV Goodra bad? Not all AV users need Giga Drain, Drain Punch or Regenerator. Look at Ttar or Escavalier.

This was a typo, right?
Also, Esca only has Megahorn. Ttar has EQ and SE. Goodra has Draco, Fireblast and EQ (i remind you, Quiet nature)
I use it as a pivot switch/special tank. I don't understand whar's wrong with AV.

Smogon is terrible for VGC their support is anorexic at best and borderline retarded. The only good VGC player I've seen regularly haunting Smogon don't even post there anymore.

Nuggetbridge and Eggyemporium are the places to go for useful Official Format news, strats, teambuilding, warstories and information.

Talonflame is jolly because is the only thing I have to stop opposing talons, the extra HP on Latias is for... I don't remember what is for, but I think it's important, also roost and lefties so It can defog for longer and keep sash and talon standing.
So what glaring weaknesses should I fix to have any hopes of going higher on the ladder?

Extra bulk on lati is usually to live rocks scald burn switchins frmo keldeo

Sash lando as opposed to lo without rocks is slightly silly imo, but with no other sasher it gives you a better shot at stopping sweeps

Since Mamoswine doesn't carry SR I suppose it's not your lead. Therefore I would try LO instead of Focus Sash. Alyo don't you have problems with defensive teams since you don't have any set-up sweeper or substitute user? You could try a SD/CM set on Crawdaunt, Talonflame or Gardevoir.

Any steel type resists all of Altaria weaknesses, you could try magnezone to trap scizor or somenthing else depending on your team. About moveset and spread depends whether you want to go physical sweeper, special attacker or just support, they're all viable and again, will depend on the rest of your team.

Basic sweeper set. You can try Facade if you want to be able to set up on Rotom-W. At +2, it's nearly unstoppable.

248 HP / 244 Defense / 16 Speed
Bold

Hyper Voice

Heal Bell / Draco Meteor

Physically defensive. Hyper Voice hits really hard, and deals with Sub Mence handily. This set is also bulky enough to take a hit from Ferrothorn's Gyro Ball and Banded Scizor's Bullet Punch, then KO with Fire Blast. Draco Meteor OHKOes Mega Charizard X, which allows Mega Altaria to counter it.

You can also run Body Slam and Earthquake on this set with an Impish nature. Body Slam's 30% paralyze chance makes it a great spammable move.
