I'm not saying pokemon never was anything but a casual game, but does anyone else feel it's just been getting worse in that regard?

Things are easier than ever to the point they're just handing out legendaries and special pokemon,and the already skimpy plots have dwindled to the point most shitty fanfictions are more engaging and interesting.
Now I swear to god the point of pokemon isn't to become the very best or to catch them all, it's to play a cutesy, dumbed-down version of Nintendogs; fantasy-monster edition and to use dem megas that will obliterate any team (unless there is a great disparity in skill) that doesn't have one.

I don't know /vp/, maybe I left my nostalgia-goggles on, but it from here pokemon looks more like it belongs next to Candy Crush or Cut the Rope on some house-wife's smartphone.
