Because whichever format is 'superior' is subjective, some people ill say VGC is better, some will say Smogon UU, but in the end you should play what you enjoy rather than start a flamewar.

What are the basic strategies for Triples? I know people tend to use Mega Blastoise because Pulse moves can hit opponents on the opposite side.
