I'm always sceptical of any decent news in Directs unless they have specifically said "Watch this because new shit."

But this is very possibly the last Direct before the release of the latest installment of their second largest series, only beat by Nintendo's flagship plumber so I think its not much of a stretch to say new megas are probable.

Does it? My numbers are outdated but I guess about a year ago when I looked I believe main series Mario games had a decent lead on pokemon and with MK8 doing pretty ok and X/Y not blowing anyone away with its sales I just assumed they stayed the same.

On handhelds, it has always sold better. But on home consoles, Pokemon doesn't sell nearly as well as Mario. Also there's a much larger number of Mario spin-offs (2D Mario, 3D Mario, Kart, Party, Golf, Tennis, etc.) so overall Mario still sells more.
