Good thread, OP.

1. More accurate/faithful Pokemon battles.
2. Actual character and Pokemon growth (you see the protag's team grow from early-route garbage to a team of powerhouses).
3. Change the protag every season/generation.
4. Have the previous protags show up in movies and specials, with their fully-powered teams.
5. Have either Giovanni or Mewtwo (or both) as an over-arcing villain to tie the series together.

First I'd make the physics of the anime consistent with itself. For example, Rock Slide could only be used at places such as mountainsides or by Rock-type Pokemon, removing the whole "rocks appearing out of nowhere" deal.

Second, I'd have removed the DEM that was Tobias, or at least removed his status as DEM, and let Ash become Champion for once. Every fourth gen from then on I'd let the protagonist become Champion and replace them with the next.

Considering Yu-Gi-Oh is still going, it must've. Ash isn't why the Pokemon anime sticks around, it's because Pokemon is insanely popular.

If you like Ash that much, that's great, but not all of us have to have shit taste.

Scratch that, I'd take the good points from Origins and the main anime and leave out the bad points. (i.e, nothing that would be impossible even with the anime physics like "aim for the horn" which was rendered useless thanks to lightning rod)

Giovanni as over-arching villain is stupid. He just isn't good enough for this job. I liked when Pokemon Adventures tried (and failed) to make Team Galactic Big Bad for other trainers.
They, Plasma (mainly Ghetsis) and, to lesser extand, Flare'll be better.
Plus, Cyrus and Lysandre are actually bussinessman, which allows them freely travel across the regions.

No, the only cool thing about the anime is that when Ash doesn't act retarded the fights are pretty intruguing specially because they don't have to follow the locked game mechanics and have a more dynamic fighting. The only bad thing is that most of the normal fights end because the trainer didn't scream dodge, if they had a better way to end them they would be perfect.
