Look at Mega Salamence.
According to gamefreak they are in the same "tier" and you can succeed with anyone as long as you battle with who you love, meanwhile they ban fucking phione, and limit one type of item per team.

Dunno mate just a quick glance over Smogon OU and Battle Spot and outside of the banned pokemon who are the most used for obvious reasons you see the exact same shit being used there.

But because the format is 3x3 you simply can't have a counter for anything.

So for example you run a team that can counter talonflame, Garchomp, Mega Mom and Mega Charizard X/Y. There you have it.

The issue comes from shit like Mega Salamence (in a month sure) and Mega Lucario, shit that can surprise and fuck with you.

I've found so many crazy sets playing in Battle Spot that it's not even funny.

All things considered Smogon and Battlespot are closer than this board (and smogon forums) like to admit.

Farfetch'd isn't competitive in no tier at all, he was designed to be a early pokemon for you to learn about trading on top of being a decent hm slave, who later on got false swipe for being useful.

He was never intended to be a competitive pokemon so there is no point in trying to make him into one.

No matter how creative you get, you can't counter ever niche strategy and every overpowered pokemon in the game with 3 pokemon and 12 moves.

3v3 basically devolves into picking three hyper offensive pokemon, or throw in some kind of wall, and hope you don't get an unlucky crit which takes out 1/3 of your team

Whenever my opponent reveals me in team preview 6 hyper ofensive pokemon I bring shit like prankster Sableye (Or anything with prankster really) and suddenly his HO braindead game is not something he can just click to win.

If you know a format has a bunch of X, you adapt to overcome it.

This is -why- you don't see people bringing 3 hyper ofense shit in Battle Spot and why Landurus-T and Aegislash are so present.

Who the fuck said I've never played it? I have. And it's overcentralized as shit, far more than Smogon's 6v6 is. It's not a matter of being creative, it's a matter of using the same tiny pool of viable Pokemon if you ever hope of winning at all and hoping you get lucky with which 3 Pokemon you pick at the start of the match.

Pokemon A gets a crit and pokemon B no longer can check A. You can either sack B to weaken A, or switch into C which is already 66% of your team damaged to their perfect health.

Switching becomes such a liability, you can't afford to fodder a pokemon, a lucky crit can take out one third of your team. In 6v6 you have much more opportunity to plan for specific niches or come back

I'm even willing to go ahead and say that Mega Lucario (and it's ilk, like M-Salamence) are fucking retarded and shit all over the format and forces you to bring hard "counters" and ways to deal with their shit.

I don't get it why smogon friends have such a hard time and problem with 3x3 singles when it's completely different from what they play and demand different kinds of skills. Both are perfectly viable for what they are, I just personally don't see the point of tiers based on usage.

Actually, yes. Evasion isn't very popular of a strat but it sees some use from some smogon players. Breloom is really popular among players in the smogon community. And obviously Kangaskhan is as well.

It's not really "throwing away their honor". Smogon is all about winning and shit, so they just use whatever is good.

6v6 you have 5 possible Pokemon to switch into

Do you know what over-centralization is OP? Without tiers 90% of pokemon would see no use is serious competitive play.

Every singles match would be the strong OU mons + all the legal in game ubers, and evasion stacking and sleep spam would be common and viable strategies.

Sounds fun! Wait, no, it sounds fucking horrible. Smogon has plenty of flaws but at least they try to make this game playable competitively.

Normal Mence hurts it a lot, VGC is all about scarfed Mences so whatever your mega does it will have to deal with a scarfed draco meteor.
Also in 1vs1 mega Mawile does at least huge damage to it.

In doubles you can use something outclassed and you can still be ok if you build around it. In singles you are most likely going to be playing 5v6 if you are using something outclassed
