Does a boost from a gem last for the entire game or just that one use?

Also, was there any confirmation of gems being available in ORAS?

You're better off with another hold item in most cases. However, gems can work well if you plan ahead or have a certain ability.

It saw some use in doubles.

Having a quick 'something needs to die' option was good at taking out threats.

This gen, power got reduced from 1.5 to 1.3, so its pretty worthless since you're better off with life orb

Smogon xy item dex still has them listed as 1.5
1.3 would make them utterly worthless.

Well fairy type sort of nerfed that, switch on a predicted lati@s draco meteor with dragon gem and watch it lower it's spatk and waste its item for no reason.
