Is there any advantage to playing competitive on-cart as opposed to simulator?

If you don't give two shits about the story and only care about the gameplay/competitive, what's the point of buying new Pokemon games? Won't simulators just add all the new Pokemon and Megas?

Yeah, you can participate in RL tournament and win prizes. Doesn't even have to be VGC, a tourney I helped with last month had 54 sign-ups and the #1 prize was a fully paid ORAS preorder.

Beating them with unexpected shitmon is great but it's frustrating to see almost no variety coming from those people, and also what >>21605157 said, they often disconnect right before you're about to win the match like any of it even matters.

What pisses me off to no end is how it's still a toss up when I face a mega charizard, had to stop using banded Azumarril and go for fucking life orb. It's currently all the trouble I'm having.

But seriously these japs are hilarious, I often run a perfect coverage (well not so perfect...) Machamp that can fuck with most of their shit barring Aegislash and Smogonbird.

For some strange reason I never see them running Charizard X with Flare Bitz so the 'Champ usually can dish some damage before goind down.

Cheats and sims don't mean it doesn't have an affect on battle. It's just one way to achieve the same results and in the end who cares if it ends with a fun battle?
What I'm wondering now is why does this affect you if people enjoy getting results from it? I mean, I could easily just call you an autist but it's more like you're trying to validate yourself or something.

That's pretty much the definition of effort. Doesn't matter how difficult the thing you're trying to do is, taking a lot of time to do it is one way of exerting effort. Grinding for breeding takes effort, and is effort.

Why the hell can't I have two pokemon with leftovers? Two leftovers is fine - you wouldn't even want more than that most of the time - and for the most part that's all the rule really prevents. You don't usually have two life orb pokemon or two banded pokemon or two assault vest pokemon. It's all about the leftovers. Then if you really do need the two defensive slots you have to try to reconfigure your team to accommodate for having to change one of them to something that can use black sludge or something... Totally retarded.

If the difficulty is zero then the effort is also zero no matter how much time you put into it.

If that's the case then nothing in this world requires effort, apart from maybe applied quantum mechanics but that's a whole different can of worms, after just reading up on something, which isn't difficult just time consuming, you can just apply it to the appropriate situaton.

Anyway, in reality 'effort' is really vague when it comes to a definition and it all depends on who you're talking to.

Actually effort has nothing to do with difficulty. It's about how much time and energy you put in.

In other words, Effort = time x energy.
Not that it can be put into a number in this sense but you get the gist of it.

Smogonfags like to say that on-cart is broken and completely owned by M-Kenga, etc, but they're not exactly right. Since you're pretty much completely free of dumb rules, you're able to deal with M-Kenga however you like.
